Charming Cottage in the Gwaun valley, near Newport

This sturdy cottage has one double bedroom, a traditional open fireplace, kitchen, bathroom and an upstairs bedroom with single beds (restricted headroom and requiring nimbleness for access by sturdy ladder stairs with handrail.) Its quirky character is part of the cottage's charm - suitable to holidaymakers keen on simple living.
Fully furnished, with a video for DVDs, Washing machine, Fridge, Electric cooker, and Broadband internet. There is a parking area for 2 cars opposite the cottage.
Situated in the unrivalled Gwaun Valley, one of the rare remaining areas of temperate rainforest in Britain, the cottage is backed by steep-sided oak clad valleyside, and a bubbling stream flows beside the property. Secluded garden with hanging line, seats, table and barbecue. Very quiet, protected and peaceful, with pubs about 1 mile in either direction (one of them well known: 'Bessie's') beaches including Newport Sands, 3-5 miles, legendary Pembrokeshire coastal walks, fishing, fresh water and sea. For active living, or just enjoying your leisure, it makes for an unforgettable holiday experience.
Beside the Pembrokeshire National Park, and in a protected site of Special Scientific Interest, the Gwaun Valley abounds in wildlife and interesting insects. A small and beautiful river flows down the valley, with Brown Trout. On blowy days, the valley tends to be warmer than upland areas.

A delight nestled in the woods and valley
We had a wonderful time. Cwmllan feels back in time in the best way. Some reviewers seemed critical of the water pressure from the spring-fed water system but this didn't bother us much at all. It's a place to go slower, not to be rushing around! Lovely neighbours and beautiful surroundings. Wonderful choice of walks and a good old-school DVD collection for cosy rainy nights in. Highly recommended.

Happy Holiday!
We have just had a great 10 night stay in the cottage and loved it's location. So much wildlife around and such a quirky cottage. So close and an easy drive to Newport beach and all the locals were incredibly friendly. We will definitely be back to stay again.

Cwmllan
We booked this lovely cottage because of the setting and because it was a traditional old cottage. We enjoyed our stay but the overall cleanliness was disappointing. Also the cold water pressure was very low so we couldn’t really bath or shower

Nice spot, shame about the property
We were meant to stay for a week, but stayed one night, emailed the landlady at 6.30am to say we were leaving, we found the property unacceptable, eg H&S issues, vermin, cleanliness standards, broken windows. To this end, she refunded part of what we had paid, we contact VRBO customer services, who were excellent in dealing with us, and we got a full refund.

Fabulous Cottage, Stunning Location
We had a marvellous fortnight at Cwmllan, a cosy cottage in a beautiful wooded valley not far from the coast. Fabulous footpaths, stunning scenery, cracking coastpaths and a cosy cottage to come home to at the end of the day. It was so lovely to fine somewhere so unpretentious and homely. There are lots of great walks from the cottage, including of course the stroll to 'Bessies' - walking back under a full moon without the need for a torch was grand. So much variety in North Pembrokesire was a real surprise - walks included woods (Ty Canol wood was amazing), moor, common, hills, riverside, beaches and rugged coastpath. We'd love to return and are very grateful to Heather and Phil for sharing their beautiful cottage with us - and for the welcome pack - Thank you!

Location is amazing, but there is a big issue with the water pressure.
Location is amazing, tranquil and very green near beautiful beaches. The beds are very cosy. Kitchen is well furbished. I didn't give it a 5 star rating because there is a big problem with the water pressure. We were unable to shower. Some days there was not enough cold water coming out of the shower (l boiling shower) and other days no hot water so unable to get a warm temperature all week. Not enough water for 4 people. But we managed twice to get a quick cold shower. It is a real shame because everything else was nice.

Very very Basic .
The location is lovely but quite far away from everything. Bedding and bedroom clean and comfortable. Kitchen equipment ok . Had everything we needed . Stairs , A death trap !! Very dangerous! .Cold water taps very low water pressure, only runs at a trickle. Practically impossible to have a decent shower . Some windows didn’t close properly others broken . Had a few mice 🐁 visiting! . Needs low doorway warning signs ! And desperately in need of decorating. Effervescent and mould on walls . Clothes felt damp even in July ! . Would be nice to have an aerial for Tv . Hard to get hold of dvd’s these days. Internet very slow . This cottage could be so much better with some TLC

Lovely cottage in beautiful location
Cwmllan is an old cottage with a lot of character. It is simple and old fashioned but has everything you need. It's the perfect place to get away from it all and unwind. The road is very quiet and the valley is incredibly beautiful, full of insects and birds and woodland flowers (in spring). I didn't want to leave.

Rural idyll
a beautiful little cottage in an idyllic location. if you like peace and quiet it's a great spot. for 2 the accommodation worked perfectly, you'd need to be nimble to use the 2nd bedroom as stairs are steep and head height limited. Basic but had everything we needed for getting away from it all

Lovely quiet location
The cottage is in the Gwaun valley which is beautiful and ever so quiet. It's easy to get to the local beaches. The cottage is quite spacious compared to some, you could potentially fit more people the 4 and the garden is nice

Lovely Cottage
Cwmllan is in an idyllic location, peace and quiet is a certainty, the cottage backs into woods and passing traffic is minimal. It’s a very traditional country cottage, low doorways and thick walls, we felt at home straight away. It’s not for someone who wants a modern property or has any mobility issues but we really enjoyed our stay, it’s well located for exploring North Pembrokeshire and Cwm Gwaun itself is full of good walks.

an unspoilt, authentic traditional welsh cottage
This property was exactly what we expected of a traditional old welsh cottage, with many lovely features, the open fire the narrow stairs the quiet location, simple unfitted kitchen and simple furnishings. all wonderfully in sympathy with the property. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. However we felt that the price of renting the cottage did not reflect the size of the property and that the basic and simple style of the furnishings and fittings was not reflected in what we felt was a high cost.

A super quaint detatched cottage, with loads of charm!
We loved the authentic style of the cottage. The beds were comfy and clean and towels are provided. There are all mod cons including electric heating, gas cooker, microwave, washing machine, satellite tv, a selection of dvds and wifi(!) The old ingelnook fireplace is absolutely lovely. Everything you need was there, plenty cutlery, plates, pots and pans etc - even coffee and tea! The original cottage appears to have been extended several times and so has a quirky charm, with lots of original features. The location is quite isolated with only occasional cars, passing walkers, cyclists and farm vehicles. However it is only about 15 minutes drive from Fishguard. The bubbling stream next to the house is very quaint. If modern and newly renovated is your thing look elsewhere though. The steps to the upstairs bedroom are quite steep and not very straight, but perfectly serviceable. The tiny door to the upstairs bedroom is charming- although probably not suitable for the elderly, or very young children. Having said that, other than the upstairs bedroom everything else is on the ground floor. We had a really lovely stay, explored the area every day and enjoyed a cosy roaring fire every evening. We also enjoyed sitting in the garden. A great holiday in a very quaint cottage, we absolutely loved it and were very sad to leave!
