About this space
Ulysses Suites has just been completed inside the historic J. G. Schmohl building in the heart of downtown Galena, located at 213-217 S. Main Street. The location is walking distance to all the best restaurants and shops. We have 7 suites and a beautiful lobby that are modern and luxurious, with lots of historical character and texture as a nod to its previous existence as the Grant Hotel from 1895 to 1933. Suite 202 is a gorgeous studio with a huge window seat looking over Main Street.
The space
The J. G. Schmohl building was built around 1850. From 1895 to 1933, Mr. Schmohl ran the Grant Hotel in this building. We have lovingly renovated this well-deserved building with a nod to the Grant Hotel from the turn of the century. We have 3 two bedroom/2 bath suites, 2 one bedroom/one bath suites, and 2 studios. Having a special family or friend gathering? You can rent the entire 7 suites that will accommodate 21 people. Ulysses Suites main entrance is at 214 S. Bench Street and is also accessible between 213 and 215 S. Main Street. Please read our "other things to note" section for our Coronavirus response BEFORE Booking.

Because of Covid-19, we are taking the CDC & WHO guidelines very seriously & are constantly evolving our best practices for how to open & operate safely. Based off the guidelines from our national & local health leaders we have reviewed our cleaning standards & operating policies.
BEFORE YOU BOOK please understand that in order for us to continue being here, we need to make sure that everyone who is coming to Ulysses Suites is taking the pandemic seriously as well. By reserving at Ulysses Suites you are telling us that you’ve been washing your hands like crazy & following CDC & WHO guidelines on how to keep yourself & your community safe (including wearing a mask while out in public spaces). Galena Get-a-way

The property was great. Easy access to the Main Street from our room and a great location. We had good communication from the owner every step of the way. The room was comfortable and very up scale. We would recommend and will use again the next time we visit.

Absolutely Perfect

Every element of this experience was ideal. While familiar with Galena, we had not stayed overnight in some years. The Ulysses Suites were the perfect accommodation -- beautifully appointed, well designed interiors, comfortable, thoughtful details, ideal location on the main street yet quiet inside. And they are above one of the most stylish interiors shops in Galena. We also loved the common area at the entrance from Bench Street - our suite was pretty small so when we got takeout one morning, it was fun to eat in the "cafe." My only regret is that there wasn't a rainy afternoon during our stay so I could enjoy the cozy window seat of Suite 202. I guess another regret is that our stay was only two nights. :) Thanks so much to Joan and team for the fabulous experience. We will for certain be back!
