The German Football Museum (Deutsches Fußballmuseum) in Dortmund showcases the glory of German soccer and offers fascinating history and fun activities for anyone interested in the sport. Stop here for a few hours to view the 1,600 items on display. Learn about some of your favorite German players and walk through enlightening exhibits on the world’s favorite sport.

During its history, soccer has been a powerful influence in the world, well beyond its existence as a game. See how football continued in Germany after the ravages of World War II and follow the development of women’s soccer. Trophies from Germany’s World Cup victories and fan chants and songs provide inspiration. Take a soccer trivia quiz and practice being a play-by-play commentator.

Enjoy the 3-D movie with holograms of some of Germany’s greatest players. Try to recognize Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels and other stars of Germany’s 2014 World Cup Championship team or simply enjoy watching impressive plays. Notice how the sport has evolved with looks back at Germany’s victories in 1954, 1974 and 1990.

Step inside the luxurious Mercedes Benz World Cup winners coach. Pretend you’re a winning player celebrating as you sit on one of the 36 padded leather chairs. You can even sit in Thomas Müller's seat or play cards at one of the four tables surrounded by flat screen TVs.

If you want to make your dream of being a World Cup soccer player reality, you must practice. Here at the German Football Museum, step onto the pitch and practice dribbling with slalom kicks or racing down the field toward the goal. If you’re not a player, sit in the stands and watch aspiring athletes show off their skills.

The German Football Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from mid-morning to late afternoon. Purchase entrance tickets with discounts for kids under age 14. Children below age 6 have free admission. Register online and pay an additional fee for a guided tour. Find the museum in Dortmund next to the train station. While in the city, try to see a Borussia Dortmund soccer game at Signal Iduna Park.
