The port still plays a major role in the city’s image and culture after two millennia of history. Follow the tributaries of its piers to see yachts and ships.

A cluster of jetties lined with jagged rocks stretch out into the sea, enclosing the calm waters of the historic Giulianova Harbor. This enclosed bay is speckled with the white masts of a range of boats moored by the piers. Stroll along one of the narrow docks for a closer inspection of the vessels.

Consider the rich mercantile past of the port, which also served as a military outlet during the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage more than 2,000 years ago. Listen to the story of Italians using some of the boats as minesweepers in World War II. The site had to be reconstructed and renovated after it was badly damaged during the war.

Today, this scenic harbor is mostly used for commercial fishing, vacation trips and personal boats. Capture photos of the Adriatic Sea, with the port’s boulders and ships making up the foreground. Look back toward the town and the green, rolling hills beyond it.

Rent bicycles with your family to ride along the wide berth of the northern wharf. At night, the rows of lanterns add a romantic flair to the harbor. Have a meal at one of the restaurants or purchase picnic food at a supermarket in this busy port and find a spot to relax.

As one of the most recognizable symbols in Giulianova, the harbor hosts occasional events, from comedy acts to music concerts. Descend to the beaches sandwiching the port and rent a deck chair. Try seafood from one of the restaurants adorning the stretches of sand.

Giulianova Harbor marks the town’s eastern edge, separating its principal beaches. Take a train or bus to the Giulianova railway station and walk east for less than 10 minutes to get to the port. Explore the surrounding streets for other highlights such as the Palazzo Kursaal, the I Portici shopping center and the Degli Eucalipti Park.
