Oh my gosh, I will definitely return to the Goto Islands, and will absolutely stay in the small, comfortable Serendip hotel Goto again.
Where do I begin. For one thing, there isn't many hotel or other lodging options in the Goto Islands, since they are quite remote and sparsely populated. That being said, I was happy to settle into the Serendip. It is comfortable, relaxed and small hotel in this remote area of Japan.
But still, the Serendip was a wonderful hotel, complete with super happy and friendly staff (not English speaking), great location in the small town of Goto, small efficient rooms, and a great breakfast meal.
The hotel staff offered me assistance with bike rentals, car rental, and advice for where to eat and what to do in the islands. I appreciated their advice so much! They are "local" and live nearby.
The hotel has new washer/dryers for clean clothes, and a small bar restaurant. But really, it was the "relaxed" feeling that I got from staying here that I loved the most. "Small town" atmosphere. Like being a LONG way away from Tokyo!
I would highly recommend Serendip for cleanliness, staff, location, and "vibe". I will be back to the Goto Islands for sure!
