About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Barlow Cabin, WiFi, Now with Level 2 electric car charger!

In its post-war heyday, the Barlow Cabin—on the route of the historic Barlow Road in Government Camp—hosted everyone from Scandinavian royalty to the world’s top ski racers.

Movie star Rock Hudson stopped in for a drink during the filming of Bend in the River (1952). The cabin was built in 1946 by Timberline Lodge’s first publicist, George Henderson, as a compact, convivial base camp and gathering place for skiers and climbers and, eventually, his own children and grandchildren. Now it's your turn to immerse yourself in Mt Hood history!

This rustic cabin offers Pendleton blankets, down comforters, a cozy wood-burning fireplace, a furnace and now air conditioning! There is also a smart TV with Hulu and WiFi to stream. You can also hook up your iPod / iPhone to the stereo to play your choice of music. The Crosstown Trail, with its links to the Westleg Road and Glade and Alpine ski trails, is a short walk / ski away. Walk to dinner in Government Camp or stay in to cook in the small but well-equipped kitchen. On the walls are photos and memorabilia from the 1930s and ’40s depicting Government Camp’s emergence as a recreation destination. While you are visiting, be sure to page through George’s own Mount Hood memoir; Lonely On The Mountain.

The living room, kitchen, small bathroom with shower, and kids’ bedroom (bunk beds) are downstairs. Upstairs are three small bedrooms and a half-bath. One upstairs bedroom has twin beds, one has a queen bed, and the third bedroom has one queen bed and one twin. Capacity is limited to parties of eight or fewer.

Guests are welcome to charge their electric vehicle at our conveniently located Level 2 car charger. Please note that the Barlow Cabin is not wheelchair accessible, and pets are not allowed.

Great cabin and location year round
Very sweet cabin, not a lot of room to do more than sleep and sit around (ie. Not much table space for games) but its incredibly close to all the shops and cafes in town. also incredibly close to ski lifts and ski bowl for year round activities. Biggest challenge was that the check in process was not provided clearly through VRBO beforehand, and they were separately emailed which wasnt expected. All around a wonderful place to stay.

Nice cabin old but nice
This is a well-kept cabin that was built in 1945 or so. The furniture etc. is all relatively old but comfortable. The mattresses on the bed were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets for when it gets cold. Overall, a very nice place to stay in the area and would recommend it as well as stay there again when we're in the area. There were some negative comments about the property managers, but they could not have been nicer when we saw them. And they responded to any questions we had. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the tools you need to cook with as well as plenty of dishes and glasses etc. There is also a very good grill on the porch for grilling. The driveway is a bit steep so just need to use some caution there. It is advertised to sleep 9 and there are certainly enough beds for that no doubt. There is a bit of road noise from the side of the house that faces route 26. The small town of Government Camp is within walking distance with several bars and restaurants and places to buy a few goods that you might need. The only downside is the bathrooms. There is one small bathroom upstairs that has a toilet and a small sink. And another small bathroom downstairs with one shower. So, I'm unsure if nine people were staying there how well that would work out. The water was very hot, but I don't know if that would last for 9 showers in a row 😊.

Stayed here for a weekend with friends on the mountain. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning downstairs during a warm month helped during the day. Well maintained property.

Great stay, but had to cut it short
we loved the Barlow cabin. Unfortunately, our second day there was a power outage from government camp all the way to Sandy, and we had to check out early. Carol and the team were great and very communicative the whole time we hope to come back up as soon as we can make it

Quaint, clean cabin
An old, but quaint and cozy cabin. Comfortable beds and linens. Clean and nicely kept. Cool old photos on walls to look at. Had a big dump of snow so has happy to have chains to get out of the slightly sloped driveway.

Epic weekend of play!
We ventured up to the mountain for Spring fest at Ski Bowl and had an epic weekend of weather, comfort, and relaxation. The house was in a great location, gently tucked away in the trees, and an easy walk to trails, local restaurants, shops, etc. A foot of snow dropped overnight so if you’re going during the winter be sure to have 4WD and patience to navigate the elements. We we’re thankful for the warm cozy fire after a long day playing in the snow. The kitchen is makeshift so expect mini fridges with limited counter space. We had four people so we managed just fine and enjoyed the cozy accommodations. Looking forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy the trails.

ski camp weekend
Great little house, the beds upstairs are super comfy and cozy, didn't use the bunks. Kitchen is nothing fancy but totally fine, smart TV works well and there is a coffee grinder. It is up the hill a little from the town center just FYI and the driveway was parking and backing practice for the teenager. 3-4 blocks to the crosstown trail. Had a great time and would totally stay again, great value of a house.

Fun in the sun and snow!
We had a great time at the Barlow cabin. We were able to do some sledding right on the property and since it happened to be 70° out, we didn't even need our coats! The cabin was cozy and the fireplace was a nice way to relax in the evening and take the chill off. It isn't the place to go if you're looking for a modern place with lots of amenities but we loved the little accents of it's history displayed throughout the home. The location is great and we would definitely stay again!

Funky little retro cabin
If you need high end appliances and modern aesthetics, this is not the cabin for you. I found this retro cabin surprisingly charming and really enjoyed it. Outdated, but I enjoyed the throwback feel of it. Loads of space right outside the cabin for kids to go sledding and play in the snow. Bring your own sleds and the let the kids play. Also walking distance to downtown Govt Camp restaurants.

Great stay!
Loved this funky old cabin from yesteryear Mt. Hood. It brought me back to a childhood of memories at Timberline. The shuttle to the lodge was great. Mountain biking was spectacular. We had a fabulous getaway. Only downside was proximity to the road noise in the morning, and the lack of a couple of comfy outdoor chairs for evening drinks on the deck. We will be back !

1. I was told it had a washer and dryer and it didn’t 2. It is very rustic/old 3. Smelled very musty/moldy 4. Difficult to communicate with the office 5. Very old and some dirty cooking and eating utensils 6. Frig and freezer beverage size so hard to buy enough food for storage. 7. Never could get regular tv stations. I apologize for this review. I have never written a bad review. I do believe however that this a rustic cabin for the pricing. Great history though!
