Beautifully modern in its design and peaceful, natural, and classic in its woodland surroundings, this contemporary home in Government Camp is a Mt. Hood escape like no other. Summer or winter, you'll be a matter of steps from beautiful trails, gear shops and rentals, restaurants, and après-ski spots.

This home sits among the evergreens on the north side of town, with the Glade Trail accessible just up the road. Whether you spend your days skiing, snowboarding, or hiking, you'll love coming home to an open and airy living space that awaits upstairs on the top floor. This great room features lofty, exposed-beam ceilings, plentiful and generous windows that frame the forest, and a layout that brings together the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room. The sleek kitchen features upscale appliances (including a double-drawer refrigerator, a beverage cooler, and a dishwasher), streamlined cabinetry, and seating at both a windowside breakfast bar and a modern dining table. You can also grill and dine outside on the deck in the fresh alpine air.

After dinner each evening, you'll have your choice of lounge spaces - you can curl up for a movie on the leather sofa in the living room or sip hot cocoa on the deck in the warmth of the fire table. There's even a studio space on the ground floor with its own sofabed, flatscreen TV, and kitchenette for drinks and popcorn. When it's time to turn in, you'll find two bedrooms in addition to the studio, each with its own TV to lull you to sleep.

Perfect Mt Hood Getaway
This is our second time staying at Baernhaus- it has become our go-to place to stay in Government Camp. Clean, sleek, modern but very cozy. Perfect location- short 1 block walk to Govy, yet completely private setting, elevated in the trees. Nice separation of bedrooms from common areas. Bedroom arrangement better suited for families but workable for couples. Definitely staying here again!

Perfect location, but several other issues
I hate to leave a bad review, but there are some things folks should know before reserving and some things the owners could improve. The location is fantastic! By far the best location in town. The biggest issue and why we would not stay again is the beds/layout. We were two couples and two teenagers. One couple had the room with the queen, which was fine, but the double on the same floor is small and the nightstands are right up against the bed. This shouldn't be a complaint because it is accurate to the description, but know that it's a double (not a full) and a very tight fit for two adults. The pull-out downstairs, which is the same as the one upstairs, is two separate slide-outs (smaller than twins). The teens each took one side and were ok, but no way two adults could sleep there comfortably. Not a huge issue but be aware that the kitchen is on the 3rd floor, so the load in is a long haul. The house has lots of extras but was missing basics: In a house that sleeps 8, there were 5 dinner plates and 5 forks. Not a single dish towel, no foil, no salt & pepper. But the real issue came when the power went out. Totally not their fault (all of Govy lost power), but the house had one TINY flashlight and some tealight candles. No lanterns, no real flashlights, no snow shovel. The fireplace is electric, so no heat w/o power. The neighbor lent us a shovel so we could leave after a night w/o heat, but how do you have a winter cabin w/ no preparedness amenities?

Forest Magic
First time in the Pacific Northwest. As an avid camper, I am familiar with the southwest and southeast environments. I was sent to Portland for business and saw the opportunity to stay the weekend to explore. After scouting the area via Google I settled on the Mount Hood forest area. Quick search on VRBO landed me to discover Govy and the wonderful property I stayed at amongst the trees. Well appointed, very clean, with a modern vibe. Every detail was covered. Truly enjoyed everything about this location as a jumping off point. Walking distance to the town center. It all aligned to make this visit "Forest Magic vacay" to remember. Will definitely be back.

Another great summer in Oregon
My family and I stayed at this wonderful rental this summer after having stayed here last year. The property once again met all our expectations, and we will definitely stay here again in the future if it is available.

Fun in the snow!
This was a great place to stay for this family of four! It met everybody’s needs. The ‘town’ was walkable from the house, and we did it multiple times. The slopes were also a short drive away.

Beautiful home with views of the forest and stream. Lovely design. Well stocked kitchen.
Everything about the place was wonderful. The only issue was the downstairs room. To use as a third bedroom for adults needs an improved bed. Otherwise great stay!

Perfect location
We had a great stay! The property is so close to every where we wanted to go. Our toddler did great in the home though and we didn’t have many worries. The only suggestion I have for improvement on the property is to make sure the propane tank is full. It was empty when we arrived so we did have to pay to have it filled so we could enjoy the outdoor patio. Overall was a great stay! We’d come back.

Ski camp stay
My husband and I stayed here while our two boys attended the Tichy ski camp. The location was unbelievable and the town couldn’t have been cooler. The house itself was immaculate with the best amenities we’ve had at any rental house we’ve stayed at. We couldn’t have been happier and are looking forward to (hopefully) staying again next year!!!! We can’t thank the hosts enough for sharing their beautiful home with us.

Fantastic Experience
This property provided absolutely everything that our family needed for a short getaway to the mountain. The house was clean, comfortable and well designed. Despite the snow storm outside we felt safe and warm. Couldn’t think of a better place to be snowed in.
