Walk directly from the deck down to the public park and beach. Hike, bike, boat, paddle, swim, fish, snowmobile, snowshoe and enjoy nature in the little town on the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. Trailheads for popular hikes are minutes from the apartment. We are across the street from popular restaurants and right on the wooden boardwalk in downtown Grand Lake. Off-street parking is available to one vehicle per apartment, free public parking is available all along Grand Avenue and in several town maintained public parking lots. The public beach has a launch for non-powered boats next to the fishing pier, bring your canoe, kayak or paddle boards.
Grand Lake is a charming little town with a lot of history. The Kauffman House Museum is open most weekends, there are shops, galleries, and restaurants all along the wooden boardwalks. The town is surrounded by national forest and Rocky Mountain National Park. Take a drive over Trail Ridge Road to Estes Park or check out the lively town of Winter Park. Summer is the busiest season with mostly sunny weather, if you prefer a slower pace come visit us in the fall when the aspen turn red and gold and the weather is cool. Winter offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling very nearby and alpine skiing is just 20 minutes away in Granby. The town allows snowmobiles on the public streets, which connect to trails in the Park. Visit Hot Sulphur Springs to soak in the naturally hot spring water, one of the pools was used by the native peoples prior to arrival of pioneers.
Grand Lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado and host to two marinas. Shadow Mountain Lake connects via the channel and hosts a 3rd marina. Travel between the two lakes is permitted. Numerous creeks and rivers are accessible from public land for fly fishing. Rent a power boat from one of the marinas or rent a paddle board or kayak if you prefer a human powered ride. ATV use is permitted within town limits with a safety flag.
