Frost-Free was designed by Architect Tom Frost as his family retreat in the Bahamas - and it is now open to share with you. Set on the quiet bay side of Great Guana Cay, Frost-Free boasts 150' of craggy shore frontage with a 44' dock that takes you to the perfect location for swimming, kayaking, floating, and gorgeous sunsets. Watch colorful fish and rays swimming underneath the dock, and listen to the shore birds flying overhead. The large front porch is the ideal place for afternoon sips and watching boats coming and going from Guana's harbor. A dining porch allows for perfect sunset views while enjoying the last meal of the day. Frost-Free has a first floor primary bedroom complete with full bathroom, built in dresser storage and ample closet space. The second floor opens to a large loft-style bedroom with a queen bed and two twin beds, lots of shelf and hanging storage and a half bath. Upstairs guests can use the primary bathroom on the first floor, or the outdoor shower for washing. We use the outdoor shower almost exclusively because Frost-Free is very private and the air in the Bahamas is warm and wonderful. The Snore Box is a very sweet guest cottage near the house, complete with a queen bed, closet, and full bathroom. It is a private little oasis; sounds of the ocean waft through the windows with the ocean breeze. All of the spaces in Frost-Free have air conditioning and heat and are meant for year-round use. Furnishings are comfy and casual, and the house is complete with everything you'll need to enjoy your stay: washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen, bed linens and bath and beach towels, books and games, wireless internet, tv for streaming.
Including the use of the Snore Box, Frost-Free is comfortable for up to 6 adults, or 4 adults and 2 children. More bodies than that will feel crowded, so we've limited the occupancy as such.
Great Guana Cay is a small island and all it has to offer is only minutes away from Frost-Free: long sandy beaches, Nippers and Grabbers oceanside bars and restaurants, Guana Harbor, boat/paddleboard/snorkeling/diving rentals, fishing and island sight-seeing tours, and more.
As with all of the islands in the Abacos, Great Guana Cay was hit hard by hurricane Dorian in 2019. Frost-Free has undergone a full renovation and repair with the exception of our storage shed which sits between the Snore Box and the dock. The storage shed may or may not be repaired by the time of your visit, but in either case it will not at all detract from your visit! Great Guana Cay suffers from periodic power outages since hurricane Dorian; an issue the power company is working to rectify. At Frost-Free, we have a whole-house, automatic generator that will switch on if the power goes out or is low in strength. You should have no issues with power at Frost Free.
At Frost-Free, we have a 44' long deep-water dock. There are dolphins for tying your boat, with approximately 16' between dock and dolphins, and a 6' draft. Many large boats anchor in front of our house as waters there are calmer than other parts of the island. As a guest of Frost-Free, you are welcome to "park" your boat at our dock.
Our house manager is on the island and just a phone call away in case of any issues. She will also provide extra services at an additional fee, if you desire: laundry, extra cleaning during your stay, shopping for groceries to be ready at the house upon arrival.
You will love Frost-Free and Great Guana Cay!
