Our group was two couples on a quick weekend trip to the Poconos, so this was much more house then we needed but we liked the location, the photos, and that it had two primary bedrooms.
Our initial impressions were very positive. John, the owner, is friendly and accessible, and the exterior of the property was ready for us - road/driveway mostly clear of snow, walkways shoveled, etc.
Inside the home, our impressions were mixed. The house is large, open, and comfortably furnished. The living area is great, as are the views. Unfortunately, the house had a diesel odor, probably from a recent heating oil refill and the entire house just didn’t feel especially clean. The bathrooms were so-so, the kitchen drawers were a mess - one had every kitchen tool, including knives, just haphazardly dumped in, and another was filled with hardware like nails and screws. (Also, no wine opener - bring your own).
The main floor primary bedroom had a significant roof leak that filled a bucket during our stay. John told us about the leak ahead of time and said the room was still usable, though he didn’t say that the leak was in a primary bedroom. Water dripped constantly and the careless rearrangement of the heavy furniture made it so we couldn’t close the bathroom door. The room wasn’t useable, which was unfortunate since we had two couples.
As for provisioning, come prepared. The listing showed the normal VRBO provisions provided by owner. We didn’t find anything except for a half roll of toilet paper or two, and John said this change was due to Covid. No problem - it didn’t take much to get what we need - but it was frustrating to have to go to the store immediately upon arrival to buy soap, toilet paper, etc. when we could have just brought those things. This was an annoying inconvenience - please come prepared.
Also, the towel situation was not great. The towels weren’t easy to find, and were not set up in each bathroom. Also, many of the towels were being used on the floor of the bedroom to contain the leak.
Finally, on our final day the refrigerator broke and spoiled our food (the ice maker never worked, so bring a bag of ice, too). John said it’s possible we put it into demonstration mode (?), which would have turned off the compressors, but said he was going to replace it anyway.
In summary, it’s a big house in a pretty location that may be best suited for a family or group that is okay with a large, tired home.
