Romantic Caribbean Hideaway: Views to Die For: Perfect for two

TI ZAN COTTAGE: Close enough to all activities and yet an oasis of tranquility this exotic property with its sensuous style of easy luxury set on an acre of hillside above the sea, combines the best of West Indian architecture with a hint of the east, to create a home of exceptional tropical flair, character and ambiance. With its typical West Indian woodwork, hand-made Demarara and louvered windows, vaulted Indonesian style wooden shingled roofs, organic mix of natural stone, marble, wood and glass, burnt orange exterior, “outdoor” shower in lush gardens, this stylish cottage provides a great location for an exceptional, romantic Caribbean experience perfect for two. Perched on the hillside above the main villa, the views from Ti Zan are even more dramatic. The large covered veranda and cane chairs around a round, wooded table, is a perfect place for any meal, or any time. The deck opens onto a spacious open - plan bedroom with queen size bed, TV with cable, and kitchen tiled in earth toned tumbled marble. The floor to ceiling wooden louvers and large doors are designed to ensure that the drama of the view is fully captured within the cottage at all times. The shower area is unique. Tiled with local river and imported stone, the area is suspended outdoors with large traditional wooden windows flung wide open to embrace the view. Both the main villa, Zandoli and Ti Zan were designed with a blend of modern and traditional architectural detailing of their roofs, eaves and windows to capture the most of the prevailing Trade Winds to ensure tropical, yet cool comfort year round. The gardens are tropical and lush, with an infusion of exotic palms, grasses, trees, shrubs, and other tropical species, interspersed with an array of fruit trees .The beauty of the tropical setting has provided the backdrop for the weddings of several happy couples from Europe, Canada and the USA, who have traveled to Zandoli to get married and enjoy their honeymoon, and for return visits.Ti Zan is within walking distance to the beach and Pigeon Island, a great area for hiking, running, walking and exploring the history of this region. Pigeon Island is a historic National Park and home of St. Lucia’s internationally famous Jazz Festival, now in its 23rd year, and held in May. Sunset “rum punch” cruises, championship golf, tennis, internationally renowned health spas, restaurants, clubs, banks, shopping and a marina with yachts available for charter await, a 5-7 minute ride by car to Rodney bay Marina and Rodney Bay Village. The cottage is accessed by road, a short section of which (approximately 1 minute ) is unpaved - causing our guests to say that it puts them immediately in the mood for 'Island Life". We usually recommend that our guests opt for an SUV type vehicle if they are interested in renting given that it provides superb access to off-the-beaten track gems in St Lucia. Staff: Housekeeper half-day service, twice weekly.

Centipedes and fleas
One star. This accommodation looks exactly like the picture and you get mesmerized by the view but do not be fooled like me. This is my first and last time booking through VRBO. All of the reviews are from non summer months and the listing does not fully disclose that there is no air conditioning. So it being August made it very hot. If the listing would have disclosed no air conditioning, I would have re considered booking. The entire house is open, even if you close the windows, hot air and bugs can still get into the inside. It took us till the end of our stay to discover that there are fleas in this property in the mattress. My husband and I had over 100 bug bites on our body. I bled on the sheets because I itched so bad and was afraid that the host would charger me for this. Yet the host does not live on site or maybe in St. Lucia so they will be of no help at all. There is a bug net (with holes) but there are all sorts of moths and other bugs actively trying to eat it. We found two venomous centipedes inside because there are so many places for it to get into. It was after midnight and there was literally no other hotel to stay in so we slept in our car. I would rather sleep in my car than around a bug that could potentially kill me. Be VERY weary of booking this property because it is not as it seems. The same goes with the rules. The owner will send you 6+ pages of rules after booking, most of which are not mentioned on the page prior to booking. Not only was the expe

Perfect honeymoon house
My wife and I spent 8 glorious nights at Len’s wonderful, romantic cottage. The view is stunning. The memory of waking up and spending our mornings on the porch with the sun illuminating the island and the birds for company will stay with us forever. Showering while looking over the bay. Falling asleep to the song of the crickets. This was our first visit to St Lucia and we can’t wait to return. Easy access to the beach at Pigeon Island (highly recommend Jambe de Bois restaurant there) and a reasonable walk to Gros Islet for authentic local food, groceries, etc. If you are disinclined toward the all-inclusive, resort-style vacation, this is a great fit for you. Our host was gracious and available to quickly answer our questions despite being out of the country.

Property exactly as advertised. View and nightly sunsets was exquisite. Even though you are isolated you feel very safe. Security system and an actual person who stops twice a week and really checks. I would definitely come again, altho when temps might be lower. Heat on this trip was definitely over powering.

Amazing views and awesome outdoor shower!
Saint Lucia is an incredible island with so much to offer. This spot has a cozy rustic bungalow feel, with an incredible view of Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island. The shower has an open ceiling (screened in) and wide windows that open so you can see the ocean. We had many beautiful sunsets and morning breakfasts from the deck. The first time driving up the access road is intimidating- you definitely need a high clearance 4 wheel drive. Anything else will bottom out- and really need this to feel comfortable driving the rest of the island. Some of our favorite spots were Joes at Pigeon Beach, Jamb de Bois, and Smugglers Cove. There are many geckos around/in the house, and sometimes they leaving small droppings- so if that is something you don’t mind this spot is perfect. Len was a great host! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

A cute cottage with a view to die for
We loved this place. You could spend days just watching from the porch the boats and cruise ships out on the Caribbean. It is a short walk down to the beaches at Pigeon Island. You can lie in the sand, float in the bay, buy drinks off little boats that visit the beach, take a water taxi across the bay to lots of restaurants (go to the French place). At least once make reservations at the Naked Fisherman, great food and drinks right on the water. The staff and Len, the owner, are really helpful. The cottage itself is very pleasant for a couple and has lots of charm. The hot water is hot and the shower is great for rinsing off the salt from the beach. At night most of what you hear is the surf rolling in. The location, for being up on the hill, is convenient to Rodney Bay and beyond. The cottage has all kinds of flowers growing around it which draw hummingbirds. For breakfast go to 7th Heaven Café and bakery. We look forward to being back.

This efficiency was very comfortable for a couple, and the view was spectacular. It is well described in the online listing. You do want a 4WD high clearance vehicle for the drive in.

Quiet Paradise
I almost did not write this review because I selfishly want to keep this place to myself! We had a wonderful 5 day stay here with incredible views and the sound of the ocean every night. The property is quiet and the flowers are abundant and gorgeous. Coffee on the porch in the am watching the waves and local horses below is unreal. Len and the housekeeper Velda are kind and quick to respond. If I return to St Lucia I will absolutely be staying here or splurging for the larger house on property. TIPS: - there is no AC, but with the breeze of the ocean and fans we were comfortable - you absolutely need a vehicle with high ground clearance to make it up the road, a little nerve wracking but worth it. - the beach is an “active” 20-30 min walk so if that’s not for you rent a car or be prepared to taxi often - the place is rustic, that being said youll probably see some ants or a couple mosquitos, this was never an inconvenience (especially with the newly installed screens) just don’t stay expecting a sterile hotel room, it’s all part of the charm!

Ti Zan cottage
Accommodation was great with fantastic view. Didn't have vehicle so felt bit isolated as believe there weren't any stores within walking distance. Would have liked to have seen onsite booklet with map and directions as to how to get to some of the (close) local sites. Road very rough but that was expected. Had numerous messages from property manager prior to arrival but nothing during/after. Would have at least thought we would have be contacted while there. Overall very impressed with the accommodation and would not hesitate in going back (however, probably with vehicle)!

Romantic HideAway Ti Zan
Wow! Ti Zan is such an amazing romantic cottage and so perfect for 2. We were so lucky to have been able to stay here and experience the north of St Lucia. The views are spectacular and overlook Pigeon Island, the Caribbean sea and the marina at Rodney Bay. You would never tire of sitting on the balcony and admiring the scenery. However to get to this location you have to tackle the road up. The unpaved final ascent to this property would be a challenging 5 minutes without an SUV so this is a must. The instructions to reach the property given by the owner Len are very clear but ideally it’s easier to find Ti Zan in the daylight when arriving for the first time. We were met and shown round by Velda the cheery and very helpful housekeeper. Thereafter, it was easy enough to walk up and down to the beach and pigeon island and just leave the car. The beach at Sandals could be reached in less than 15 minutes wearing trainers. (Although I don’t think I recommend walking anywhere after dark - it’s more prudent to take the car). We would use the stretch of road between the bottom of house and Pigeon island to do our morning shuttle runs along followed by a swim in the sea by Sandals and then do yoga on the balcony at Ti Zan. The aura of this naturally beautiful place and its peace and tranquillity is worth a million dollars! Dr Len was excellent with all her communications re TI Zan before, during and after our stay. We followed some of her good recommendations like the beach at The Naked Fisherman and the beach at Cotton Bay. Our favourite places to eat were Jambe De Bois on Pigeon Island, Margorie’s at Cotton Bay and The Golden Taste at Gros Islet. On occasion we would have take away food dining on the balcony playing our chill out music and drinking cocktails under the stars - looking out over the Caribbean and the mini Pitons - a little taste of paradise. This place doesn’t have AC but the patio doors open and the fan on were cool enough. Mosquito repellent and the mosquito net over the bed also are a must. But this is a small price to pay to enjoy this property. It has all the mod cons and every area of this cottage bar the toilet faces over the Caribbean. We loved our stay in Ti Zan for 5 nights and were very sad to leave. We miss the view from the balcony and the outdoor shower the most but hopefully will be back to stay another day!!!

Highlight of our trip!
The cottage was wonderful! The view from the patio was breathtaking and I would have been content to just sit there all day and evening watching the horses in the pasture below, the crashing wave and sail boats. Amazing! The cottage was just perfect inside with a stone shower with a window overlooking the water. I loved the cool breezes flowing through the cottage. The road up to the cottage was a bit rough and definitely needed a 4x4. But was worth it. Velda was very helpful getting us checked in and situated. We took the owners advice and visited smugglers cove which had my favorite beach and the Naked Fisherman restaurant. Thank you for an amazing experience that we will remember!

Perfect couples getaway in Gros Islet
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Cap Estate cottage. The view was spectacular, especially at sunset time where the sun set behind Pigeon Island. The cottage was cozy and modest but had everything you could want. We watched local Caribbean TV and made meals in the well-stocked kitchen. The open-air shower was awesome, especially in the rain. The highlight was eating meals on the porch and enjoying the view. The road up was exciting but with our rented Sazuki Jimny (like a mini Jeep) we got the hang of it quickly and enjoyed the adventure of it. We highly recommend the cottage. It was lovely!

Spectacular view, did not want to leave,
Everything was as advertised. The view kept us at Ti-Zan three evenings for cocktails and dinner prepared in the kitchen. Family staying in the main house, never saw or heard them. The housekeeper Velda was great! We were late but she took her time to make sure all our questions were answered. Rent an SUV with high clearance. The road up is an adventure. Will be back to rent the big house!
