We stayed in 4 hotels across Sri Lanka on our trip and this was by far the very best hotel we visited. It is such beautiful accommodation, thoughtfully designed. It's clean, modern, safe and you feeling totally immersed in the forest/jungle. The staff were beyond polite and helpful, always greeting us warmly - especially those in the dining area. The food was some of the best we had in Sri Lanka, very authentic, catered to our needs (gluten free - even with gf bread) and so tasty. We would highly recommend this Taru Villas to anyone visiting. Also well located for Sigiriya (for the rock) and Minneriya Park (for the elephants). Thank you!
From start to end, it was an extraordinary experience to stay at the Taru Villas Maia.
Most friendly service, wonderful room, lovely pool area.
Loved the good coffee and tea (and fresh milk!) in the room, very comfortable bedding and the big shower.
Food (breakfast & dinner) was also outstanding. We mostly had Sri Lankan dishes and loved it.
Can’t say enough good things about this place. Would return immediately!🙂
Nice beds, wonderful architecture and large in the house/rooms. The most beautiful room we had on Sri Lanka. The food was amazing, we can really recommend this. The best ever tuna steak and a lot more. We spend 4 wonderful nights at Taru Villa Habarana. Nice pool as well. They have it all! So much to see in the surroundings. We can really recommend this hotel!!
We had the most amazing stay at the Taru Villas. Wonderful room and overall architecture, excellent food, first class service and staff. What an experience!
We felt instantly relaxed and welcomed upon arrival. The grounds and pool are beautiful. Room was spacious and immaculate, we loved the variety of loose leaf teas in our room and delicious homemade biscuits that were replenished. The staff were the most attentive in our whole time in Sri Lanka. Things like coming with umbrellas on arrival to our car so we didn’t get wet, guiding us with a light to and from the dining area to our room each night, speaking to us about our travels and offering to be of service anytime we needed to enjoy our stay. Food was good, particularly the Sri Lankan dishes. Wine cannot be bought by the glass but if you get a bottle they will keep for the next night if unfinished which is a nice touch. We had such a great time on the couple of tours that we booked through the hotel. Highly recommend this boutique to unwind from busy activities during the day, it has a lovely private and boutique atmosphere. We would stay again.
Taru Villas, Maia, Habarana is an amazing boutique hotel, where you felt completely by youself. The staff were amazing and always making sure we had a great stay. The food was very delicious and the rooms and pool very nice to relax in. I can really recommend this place for a nice and quiet place with lovely staff around you.
Taru villas at Habarana was absolutely amazing. Staff are exceptional and the accommodation is beautiful. Absolutely serene and a great choice of food and drinks.
We truly had a great time at Taru villas. Huge thanks to all the staff who took care of us so well. The food was incredible and we spoke to the chef every meal, he's like an uncle to us.
The Taru Villas team were such wonderful hosts to me and my wife. We loved the stay and particularly enjoyed the forest setting. The rooms are magnificent and incredibly well designed. Thank you to the team.
Amazing boutique hotel with a great relaxing atmosphere. One area of improvement would be on drink selection and prices, as these were limited and pricey.
All staff fantastic!
This property is absolutely stunning. We had a wonderful 4 night stay and weee treated like we were the only guests there. Nothing was too much trouble. We organised all our trips through the hotel and had a wonderful time. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
We are architects and the property is one of the most architecturally significant modern properties in Sri Lanka blending vernacular architecture with modern design. It’s fabulous considering a slightly odd site accessed only via a new bridge. The architecture and furniture and some of the best I’ve seen. The staff are great and friendly. slightly too over attentive at meal times but that’s probably just me! The only shortfall is the integration of the amenities into the overall operation - it needs a designated bar (apparently in the works) as after dinner the only option is to go to your villa room. Not a problem per se but would be nice to socialise a bit after. During the day if you hang out at the property we missed some attentive drinks and snacks being considered for the pool area (lovely pool overlooking the pady fields!) when you felt slightly left to your own devises. If this was a soho house there would be someone around acknowledging your presence and servicing from time to time - you have to go and find the staff who then they snap into action. A bit snoozy if you are trying to have a fun time! - major issue is the lack of variety of drinks - beers and wines only - I could have done with a gin and tonic or two beside the pool - slightly not understanding why management haven’t worked this out (I know licensing is tricky in Sri Lanka) as I would have probably spent 50% more on my extra/ ove bill (over and above the half board) if this had been worked through 4/5!
Exceptional villas - stay here if going to Sogiriy
Taru Villas was exceptional! From the moment we walked in, the team could not do enough to help us - they were all fantastic.
The rooms are beautiful and bathroom stunning. Loved the pool area, which was very peaceful.
Food was fabulous in the restaurant as well.
If you’re going to Dambulla / Sigiriya, stay here!!
Although our overall rating is good and individual people were really motivated to take good care, we somehow missed the Sri Lankan authenticity. Food was mediocre, really not what I expect from a five star hotel.
Management should be more interconnected. We recognized some issues: We booked additional nights via a different platform. I informed people before our arrival and at arrival about it so that we do not have to change room. However, at the end of our first booking, we did not receive room service anymore and were asked for late checkout payment in the afternoon because we were still staying in the room. I had to explain several times that I made another reservation for the following night. Only with recurring request, we received the services that were booked.
To summarize, people individual‘s effort was amazing, but their integration into a well managed service body was lacking from our observation.
Rooms are really the highlight in this hotel. Clean and beautiful. The hotel property is located in an areal of untouched „farmland“. It is beautiful of course, but I would expect a more maintained property from a five star hotel…
Best hotel room we’ve had. Beautiful location and property and awesome food, really well adjusted to my wife’s gluten intolerance. the employees really care and go above and beyond. Absolutely great! Well done and keep it up.
Only 2 small pieces of advice for the management because I know you care about it:
1. Increase number of towels in the rooms, 1 per day is not enough in the outside bathroom because things stay moisty
2. Do room service when guests are at breakfast. We often were out of the room several hours in a row and then the room wasn’t cleaned yet. It then had to be cleaned when we wanted to be in it.
Apart from that 10/10!
