Cozy Cottage with Guest House, Gazebo and Deck

Cozy Cottage with separate guest house in the country near Abita Brewery, wineries, Lake Ponchartrain, and a short drive to New Orleans. This historic barge board cottage on private property has a covered gazebo, wraparound screened-in porch, outdoor deck and walking paths through the woods to see foliage, squirrels, and birds. Great place to experience the beauty of the wooded landscape and get away from it all. Ample parking. Nice set up for guests who need two separate areas. Kitchen is fully stocked with all you need to prepare a gourmet dinner or something simple to enjoy on the deck or screen porch. There are four bedrooms: two in the main house and two in the guest house. The main house front bedroom contains a double bed to accommodate two guests and the back bedroom offers a queen bed for two guests. There are three twin beds in the guest house to accommodate three guests. Both buildings have a full bath.

Grandma house - a good thing!

The separate cottage was great for the younger crew. they enjoyed the independence. The main cottage was very quaint. We loved the looks of the past, the porch, the deck and the gazebo. The only thing was the squeeze through the gate for a larger truck, especially in the dark.

Relaxing Getaway
My husband and our 3 teens wanted a place to just relax and enjoy the scenery. This place met all of our expectations and more. The porch (which is why we booked) hwas our happy place! The pictures do not do it justice. It’s even more gorgeous. The grounds were magical. The porch swing was my favorite thing. We hope to go back in the fall! Lots to do around, also. Don’t miss the Sunday Abita Springs Art and Farmers Market. Touring Abita brewery was amazing, too.

The house had a lovely screened porch and a wonderful gazebo with a hammock. I wished I had more time to spend there to enjoy them. If one is a light sleeper, the road noise could be an issue, and the fact that the bathroom is between the two bedrooms could also be an issue for a light sleeper, as there is no buffer from the noise of the shower, etc.

Time in the Woods
We appreciated our time in the woods away from it all. The house is such an amazing 100-year old treasure and the furniture made for perfect complements. Two drawbacks - I have severe allergies and the air freshener was way too much. It was even in the sheets which made it difficult for me to sleep. The other comment refers to the front screen door. I loved having the back screen door secure. However, I would have loved to have a similar one on the front porch. With both, I would have felt like the porch provided reasonable security for a house in the country.

Great Get-a-way!
Very comfortable home! I enjoyed the easy access to the Tammany Trace for riding my bike and running. Fabulous to work remotely out on the screened in porch. Also always enjoy eating and drinking at the Abita Brew Pub. Merry was great making sure all was well and providing updates when a storm came through and we had a short power outage.
