I am sorry but this a no pet property - we host some people who are allergic to animals and no matter how careful we are with our cleaning we need to make sure they ar not affcted by dogs, cats etc.
Our Space:
Rivendell is an unusual 1960's house which is well maintained in a classic cottage style decor with an outstanding mature garden running along the river Solva. The house is deliberately set out to match its age and is not minimalist but is welcoming and comfortable which is aimed at helping you to relax. You can see this from the photographs of the inside of the property. The house itself has everything you need for a relaxing home from home break for couples and families alike.
On entering from the car parking area you will find a sitting room to your right with sofas, TV (DVD player internal to this), books to read and plenty of room to relax. On your left is the well stocked kitchen with a cooker, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster etc and plenty of china and cooking equipment. The next door on the left takes you into the dining room at the rear of the property with its views across the garden to the woodland on the other side of the river.. Next to that is a cloakroom with loo and sink. Stairs from the hallway lead downwards to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Through bedroom two is a second sitting room with access to the garden and wide windows showing the river and garden. There is also access to the garden from an external door outside bedroom 3.
The garden has a seating area which allows you to enjoy the fantastic Pembrokeshire sea air whilst listening to the woodland birdsong.
There is space in the utility room for storage of bikes, canoes etc.
It is great for birdwatchers too I have often seen11 different species including woodpeckers and long tailed tits. Beautiful.
Our well stocked country style kitchen has all the equipment you need for creating dinners in. There is a washing machine in the separate downstairs utility room which also houses the re-cyling area. You don't need to worry about putting the rubbish out for collection - we do that for you at the end of your stay.
This is not a party house and we would be grateful if you would refrain from bringing back large groups of friends to use it as such we had a lot of trouble last year with someone setting the river bank on fire!
We've just had a long 'missive' from the Welsh Government about fire risks so we've fitted new inter-connected alarms, nights lights and thumb locks. They have asked us to say please do not light candles etc in the house or use naked flames there. Very sorry about this and thank you.
There is currently no electric car charging point at Rivendell but these are available on Solva Harbour Car Park about 200 yards away.
Guest access
All of the house except the attached garage which is used as a store room and the boiler room which is not accessible from the house. There is a large garden which is for your private use. If it gets very dry in the height of summer we may enter the orchard area and the greenhouse to water the tomatoes and deal with the greenhouse occasionally but at no time do we enter the house. The garden is accessible from an exterior staircase as well as from the house.
Other things to note
There is private parking for guests (2 cars) on the hard standing, off road, outside Rivendell. If I were you when you go out I would put the chain across particularly in mid summer as people have been known (uninvited) to use it to turn in or even to park in!
You do not need to put the recycling out for collection - you are on holiday - we clear everything at the end of your stay.
How to get to Solva and Rivendell
Coming from Haverfordwest direction:
Come down the hill into Solva across the small stone bridge. Directly ahead of you is The Cambrian Inn – turn right in front of this into Prendergast. On your right is a large stone house being built go past this past the pink house and past the row of three cottages also on your right. The next house you come to is called Orchard Cottage and then there is a gap Rivendell is the next house on you right. There is a parking area outside it which may have a chain across. If it is there please just lift it across – if you go out it is a good idea to put it back as parking is at a premium in Solva and some naughty people might sneak in there and park! There is a wooden sign to the right of the front door which says Rivendell. From the front Rivendell looks as though it is a single story building but it drops away down the hill behind and is in fact two stories.
There is a key lock by the front door. There are more keys in the house so it might be a good idea to put this one back in the key safe in case the others get lost.
Coming from St David’s
Take the A487 out of St Davids and Solva is about three miles along this road. Drive past the Village Shop on your left and continue down the hill into Lower Solva. You will find the Cambrian Inn on your left. Then please follow the instructions as above turning left onto Prendergast.
Coming from Fishguard
Take the A487 out of Fishguard through Goodwick and follow the road for St Davids. After you go through Carnhedryn look out for a turning to the left marked Solva. Follow this through Caerfarchell and take the road to the left marked Solva. Go past Solva Mill on your left this will lead you into Prendergast after about a mile (from the Mill). Rivendell is on your left about 200 yards after the houses start.
Enjoy your visit.
