Ilha de Tavira Beach (Praia de Tavira) is the main beach on the sandbar island fronting the town of Tavira. The beach has plenty of space for relaxing and playing by the sea. Look out across the ocean waters and watch boats sailing in through the adjacent channel or explore the surrounding Ria Formosa Natural Park. Splash in the waves or recline on a beach chair and soak up some sunshine.
Make your way onto Ilha de Tavira Beach via the wooden boardwalks that cross the dunes. Lay out your towel or take advantage of the sun lounges and beach umbrellas available for rent. Savor a relaxing moment with the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. The view from the beach is comprised of an uninterrupted horizon of deep blue.
If you feel like a refreshing swim, dive into the gentle waves. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards and has been awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and pristine waters. Splash in the shallows with your kids at this family-friendly beach. Kids will also enjoy exploring the rocky seawall on the northeastern tip of the island. At the end of the seawall, you’ll see a pretty red-and-white nautical marker. Watch yachts and motorboats cruising into the channel that links to the Gilão River.
Go for a stroll along the beach and explore the rest of the nature reserve. As you make your way south, Ilha de Tavira Beach becomes more and more secluded. Get away from the busy beachfront and find your own private patch of sand.
A couple of restaurants are located behind the main beach. Grab a meal or a drink and enjoy the Atlantic Ocean views.
Ilha de Tavira Beach is Tavira’s main beach and is only accessible by boat or water taxi. Catch a boat from Rua José Pires Padhina or a water taxi from Quatro Águas.
