Look through almost 1,000 pieces of contemporary art across six floors of this innovative museum at the center of Jacksonville’s cultural movement.

Founded in 1924, the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is a large gallery that showcases modern works of art by regional, national and international artists. Browse exhibits across six floors that cover around 60,000 square feet (5,600 square meters). The establishment is committed to educational programs to improve children’s literacy and teach them about art. Take classes and tours and attend lectures and films on the theme of contemporary art.

Browse the impressive works on display by masters of modern art such as Joan Mitchell and Ed Paschke. See paintings, sculptures and videos showcasing the latest trends of contemporary art. The collection consists of nearly 1,000 pieces that date from 1960 to the present. Explore the temporary exhibits, which provide a fresh outlook on the latest art movements.

Investigate the ArtExplorium Loft and ArtFusion for family art activities related to items in the collection. Take a free guided tour of the museum to learn about the permanent and temporary art.

Choose from the array of healthy food at the bistro Café Nola inside the museum. Purchase gifts such as jewelry and photography books at the museum’s store. Take the Art Walk in the late afternoon on the first Wednesday of every month. This free guided tour takes you from the museum through the city and features visits to galleries, restaurants, bars and an artistic plaza.

The museum is closed on Mondays. There is a small admission fee. Check the official Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art website for opening hours and a list of specific free days. There are concessions for children and seniors and no entrance fee for toddlers.

The Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the heart of the city, just north of the St. Johns River. Take the water taxi across the river from other attractions in the city center. Central Station, which is on the city’s Skyway monorail system, is 0.5 miles (0.9 kilometers) southwest of the museum. Visit nearby attractions such as Jacksonville Landing, Friendship Park and EverBank Field Stadium.
