But no visit to this quintessentially Kansas City neighborhood would be complete without a pilgrimage to Gates Bar-B-Q only steps from your door. This no-frills barbecue joint has been smoking meats over burned wood and slathering them in their signature saucy goodness since 1946. Queue up with locals for delectable ribs, brisket, and pulled pork at the original location on E 19th Street.
The sprawling Crown Center complex, home to theatres, museums, shopping, and dining hallmarks like The Westin Kansas City and The Crayola Café is only a 16 minute walk away or 3 minutes by car.
