This is where it all began the cradle of bungy jumping – a historic bridge, the Kawarau River and a long, long fall.

For more than 20 years, longer than anywhere else in the world, this bridge has been used as a site for commercial bungy jumping, and has become one of the most popular places on New Zealand's South Island. 43 metres separate the bridge from the swirling waters of the dramatic Kawarau River and thousands of tourists flock here every year to travel that distance at break-neck speed! A professional crew works on the platform to ensure safety and to guide you through every step of the big jump. Their experience will help first-time jumpers muster the courage necessary to plunge down into the depths. You can also take a tandem jump if you want to share this special experience.

Every jump is recorded by a number of strategically placed cameras, so you can buy a DVD from the Bungy Centre afterwards and show your friends at home the hilarious faces you pulled while in freefall!

There is a fee for jumping but the bridge is open to spectators all the time. You can watch other people take a dive before and after your own jump or just enjoy the view onto the Kawarau River. Food and drink are available on-site and, in the Bungy Museum, you can learn about the history of bungy jumping.

To reach the Kawarau Suspension Bridge you can take a bus from the Station Building in Queenstown. Alternatively, save yourself some time and get there by car in about 20 minutes. Parking here is free.
