Kennywood amusement park is the perfect combination of classic and contemporary. First opened in1898, the park has seen an enormous footfall in its 115-year lifetime. Kids can create new memories on the modern attractions while those still young at heart can reminisce on the classic carousel.
The park's rich heritage of entertainment has seen it amass a huge variety of attractions over the years. Traditional bumper cars and paddle boats will leave you feeling nostalgic for those youthful summer days. The wooden Jack Rabbit rollercoaster is one of the oldest in the Unites States and, along with 5 other rollers, will coasting all day long! The parks water rides are a fun way to cheat the summer heat, so hop on a log and make a splash.
For you adventurous types, the newest ride in the park, the Black Widow, is sure to fit the bill. 40 daredevil riders sit in a circle of seats as the goes spinning into the sky in a pendulum motion, reaching 45 metres at its highest point. You'll have your head in the clouds on the Aero 360 it swings you from side to side, higher and higher until it makes a full revolution bringing you back down to earth.
Those who find it easy to become queasy may also find that food is a better option for after these kinds of rides. With over 30 cafés and restaurants there's something to suit all tastes and temptations. Take a load off your feet and re-energise with a hearty meal and a refreshing drink.
Once you're back to tip-top form, head back to your favourite ride for one last bout. Kennywood is approximately 16 kilometres southeast of Pittsburgh. You can catch a bus to the park from the city centre or if you'd prefer to drive, free parking is available. Make sure to get there early as the entry fee allows you to stay for as long as you can remain standing!
