The Quillett is a wonderful 350 year old traditional thatched cottage, just a mile from South Milton National Trust Beach. The cottage is perfectly situated to explore this idyllic rural area of the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Fully renovated but in keeping with its heritage its a very comfortable cottage for relaxing holid4ays by the sea.
Steps lead up to the large traditional door, into the spacious lounge with a large inglenook fireplace. The lounge has two double sofas, an arm chair, dining table and chairs, 42 inch Smart TV, bluetooth stereo and DVD. A few steps down from the lounge is a well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen with a small breakfast table and chairs, which looks out to the front of the cottage. Steps lead out of the lounge to a sunny patio area with seating and continue up through the pretty winding cottage garden to a second secluded patio area with dining table and chairs to catch the evening sun. There is an off-road parking area for up to two cars at the back of the property accessed via a private lane.
The bathroom is half way up the stairs, and includes a roll top bath and a separate shower unit. Further upstairs, there is a good size main bedroom with a king size bed and plenty of storage. The cosy second bedroom has twin single beds with a built in wardrobe and drawers. Both bedrooms look out on to pretty garden areas. Our bedrooms are in the alcoves of the cottage with sloping ceilings.
The property includes electric radiators in addition to a wonderful large wood-burning stove. Bed linen and towels are included in the rental, along with a complementary basket of logs for the fire in the winter season. The cottage is strictly no smoking and sorry, we do not take pets.
CAUTION: We have a lot of steps & an awkward staircase so it is not suitable for those with walking difficulties
South Milton village is a traditional village with a beautiful old church and village hall. The local National Trust beach is famous for Thurlestone Rock and is walking distance from the house. The village is equi-distant between Kingsbridge , a bustling market town, set on the beautiful river estuary and Salcombe, with its beaches and prime coastal position. The famous surfing beach of Bantham is only 2-3 miles along the coast with Agatha Christie's Burgh island within sight.
This area of South Devon is loved for its rugged cliffs, sandy coves, peaceful countryside, pretty villages, rolling hills, secretive estuaries and dark night skies.
The South-West coast path is at its most beautiful here. There are lovely walks each way on the coast path from the cottage itself. We especially like Hope Cove - a lovely fisherman's cove with great eateries and spectacular views as well as the winding coast path round to Bantham surf beach via Thurlestone , overlooking the river estuary and Burgh island.
There is lots to do in the area from visits to naval historical towns Dartmouth & Plymouth to delightful Totnes. There are lots of activities for children on the doorstep as well as further afield. And last , but not least , a plethora of pubs, cafes and restaurants to frequent!
CAUTION : The cottage has a lot of steps inside and out , with a windy staircase which has a rope hand-hold - it is not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet.
Flexible changeover days and short breaks are available!
Electric car charge available at the cottage - charged at weekly flat rate, added convenience in an area very short on charger points!
