"We had an unforgettable stay at The Residence and can’t wait to return—especially our three kids, who are already asking when we’ll be back! The hotel’s beautiful gardens were a highlight; we enjoyed walking through them every day instead of using golf carts. The staff were always friendly and eager to help, making us feel right at home. The two restaurants offered excellent food with daily themed menus and live performances, ensuring a fresh and enjoyable dining experience. The complimentary watersport activities were fantastic, with the boat house crew leading fun and informative sessions. Our beach-facing luxury villa was spacious, well-decorated, and offered great privacy, especially with its private pool although the kids also enjoyed swimming and playing with other kids in the main overflow pool. The monkeys occasionally made an appearance around the villa but kept their distance, adding a fun touch. The beach, while a bit seaweedy at low tide, was perfect after 1 pm. The tour guides were professional and made exploring the area a breeze. Overall, we had a fantastic time and look forward to returning soon!"

"Hakuna Majiwe is a safe, clean, and well-maintained location, offering a pleasant living environment. It is advisable to prepare a well-structured budget, as there may be unexpected costs, such as the Zanzibar government tourism taxes. While prices are somewhat higher than average, which is typical for similar destinations, the quality of services provided is excellent and meets expectations."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Sands Resort. Each suite is actually a separate bungalow with large, comfortable rooms and wonderful AC. There is an onsite restaurant that serves all day as well as a beach bar that serves snacks/meals during the daytime. It was very relaxing to be able to have all of our meals on the property. The staff were all very friendly and professional. Everything about the staff and property was wonderful. The hotel also offers excursions. The nice thing is that they are private which entailed having a driver and tours that were just for our party. However, I would not recommend doing the "swim with dolphins" excursion because there are too many other boats doing the same thing, and we didn't feel safe going in the water with so many boats moving around quickly to try to bring their passengers close to the dolphins. So, we stayed in the boat. Also, there were no life jackets available, and it was unclear how we would get in/out of the boat without a ladder or rope; the snorkel and other equipment was old, and we didn't get a chance to try the snorkel/mask before going on the water. We also did the Jozani Forest/Butterfly excursion, which was interesting to do to see the monkeys, mangroves, and butterflies, but the price the hotel charged seemed disproportionately higher than the experience merited; please note that I say this without knowing how much the hotel paid the driver to stay with us for several hours and for the forest guide. "

"Lovely food "

"What an experience. One of the more quieter and nicer all inclusive resorts on Zanzabar. 1/2 board though, but breakfast and dinner were ample buffets. Lots of local dishes and for such a remote place, much of the food is locally sourced. Fruit at breakfast and desserts made with local ingredients are standouts. Different themed buffets at dinner nightly. Lunch was always snacks at the beach which included a top notch chicken tikka tandoori and nan. Would highly recommend as staff was always eager to please. "

"A very relaxing place to stay and recuperate. We had a fantastic sea view to the front and side of the room. That did mean that when the storms came we also had a very wet floor as the front just has mesh panels and no windows (but we were very grateful for the refreshing breeze!) but this was quickly dried up with some towels. Housekeeping available everyday and excellent service. Room had a ceiling and a mosquito net over the bed. As it was hot and humid when we were there it could be quite difficult to sleep at night - not the fault of the hotel, just one of those things. The bathroom shower is not contained so be warned that the floor does get very wet and is slow to drain. The pool was great! Most guests don't seem to use it so it was pretty quiet most days. We loved it when the monkeys would come out and swing around the trees by the pool - it's a mini jungle paradise! Access to the sea is down some steps - the water is lovely and clear. Be aware that during load tied you will likely be approached by locals hiding behind rocks on the beach offering boat tours/taxi service etc. The same tours and services are offered by the hotel for a very competitive price so we preferred to book through Promised Land. Lovely bar and restaurant staff. Lovely food especially the Tanzanian fish curry! We stayed for 10 nights so menu was getting a bit samey but most people stay for much shorter period of time. Beautiful, remote location with lovely people to look after you."
