The owners were VERY helpful, friendly and let us know about things in the area we might be interested in. The place is very traditional, quite old but we really liked that, it felt authentic. It was also pretty close to a couple of different bus stops. We really enjoyed our stay!

Trænger til grundig rengøring og istandsættelse

Potentielt hyggeligt, gammelt hus. Men kunne i den grad trænge til at blive sat i stand og ikke mindst ville en meget grundig rengøring være på sin plads. Udover mange års snavs på vægge og paneler, var værelset fyldt med hår og støv, tydeligvis har støvsugeren ikke været her meget længe. For ringe standard til hotels.com.

quiet and comfy

Our friendly host provided an amazingly detailed map of the neighborhood amenities, bus stops, etc. We stayed at the Machiya location, which is VERY quiet and comfortable and located near a cluster of temples that are not overrun with tourists. Loved the old-fashioned bedroom (tatami mats etc.). Be warned that the door frames are very low, and there are many of them to contend with; we banged our heads several times.

宿泊費が安いのは、よかった。 地図を見ても宿がわかりにくかった。 部屋の掃除をもっと綺麗にしてほしい。 他の宿泊客が来るので、玄関の鍵を開けておいてほしいというのは、 不用心だった。 10時ごろまでには、オーナから、他の宿泊客が来ない旨、連絡が欲しかった。 バスタオルやタオルが新しく、よかった。

great stay!

this hotel got two washrooms and one bathroom. the teethbrushing place is separate. very convinent! the hotel is very traditional with nice smell tatami and well lighting facilities. you may also use the kitchen freely! the wifi is very useful too! also the owner suggested so many places for visit. it helps a lot! the hotel near has a wet market, super market, we drive our bicycle to everywhere!

The good, the bad and the ugly

We stayed a week at Green Gables Machiya at the end of a 5-week trip through Japan. We absolutely loved the neighborhood (Kita-ku, far from the madding tourist-crowd, yet with convenient bus service around the corner). The owner Masami was most accommodating in making us find our bearings and his wife brought us with her car to the machiya house, as the cab driver took us to the other Green Gables (more like a student flat.) Green Gables Machiya is an enchanting old-style house with three tatami-rooms and SHARED bath. This was NOT as it was listed at Hotels.com, where it mentioned that each room had a private bath. Luckily, only one other single room was occupied at the time of our stay, probably by a student or businessman, who was away all day and returned late at night. We had been looking forward to do some home cooking in the shared kitchen, but decided against it for obvious reasons. If you like sleeping on tatami, this place is for you, but ask for a vacuum cleaner...

適合想體驗日本傳統町家的旅客

這裏離市區比較遠,交通相當不方便,老闆人很好,很熱心 但要check-in必需去離這個町家大約3個路口的地方,這裡所有住宿的東西也都準備好,連浴巾毛巾都有準備,也都很乾淨,也有日本傳統的暖桌,有wifi,也有免治馬桶 房間比較舊,其他使用的東西都是乾淨的,如果想要體驗町家住宿或是要求安淨的,也是個不錯選擇, 但是對於有帶大行李的,真的比較不適合

一人で一泊するには十分

さすがに場所は分かりにくく、電話をして迎えにきていただきました。町家を改装したゲストハウスで、外国人好みかもしれません。玄関の鍵を渡してくれるので、少々帰りが遅くても大丈夫だと思います。

アメリカの女の子二人組と一緒で楽しかったです。部屋は本当に古い民家を解放している感じですが、宿泊客は外国人が多いので、色々な国の人とワイワイやりたい人には、オススメ。

Hard to find

This hotel was hard to find. My friend was very very sick and was sick all over the toilet room. I called them but they said I had to clean it. I would have happily paid for a cleaner as it was everywhere. I spent the hour cleaning. We asked for a map but it was very hard to understand so if you stay here print your own. The staff do not live here and it's very hard to contact them from the hotel if you have no phone as they don't have one at the hotel. The hotel was charming though. And the staff did pick us up when we got very lost. But yeah..

Petit appartement fonctionnel mais sale et usé.

On a eu beaucoup de difficulté à trouver l'hôtel/petite maison. Par chance on a rencontré une personne qui connaissait le lieu et qui nous a accompagner. La propriétaire ne parlant pas du tout anglais nous a fait une visite expéditive des lieux en moins d'une minute ! L'état général de la maison est vraiment vieux et usé mais fonctionnel malgré tout. J'ai retrouvé des poils dans le futon... Pas de chance en rentrant un soir, il y avait un cafard dans la cuisine. Il y a la climatisation dans la chambre.

很有日本特色的和式房子

1. 廚房和浴室並不如描述所指是私人的，而是共用的. 不過浴室和廁所都很乾淨. 2. 旅館設備基本齊全，有WIFI，只是房間裏的發熱墊不太清潔. 3. 店主服務態度很好很熱心，但我們只見過他一次，之後再也找不到他，無法寄存行李. 4. 地點遠離祇園等旅遊區，出去要坐大約半小時巴士。幸好是巴士站就在轉角處而且班次也挺密的. 總體來說，這樣的價格住到這樣的旅館也算超值.

Very Traditional

If you can image a traditional Japanese house (this is not a hotel) then this is it. If you wish to experience the Old (sliding walls and futon beds) with the New (air conditioning and modern bidet toilet) then this is for you. It was in a good location for us and was an excellent short stay experience but don't expect the comfort you would get in a western hotel. We were lucky to have the whole house to ourselves but there are 3 bedrooms in total and not enough shared space for what could be 6 or more people - unless you all know each other.

The photos included give a different impression from the actuality. The place is very 'careworn' and facilites are quite basic. The description implied a private set of facilities but be aware you'll be sharing them with 2 other rooms. If this is your first time staying in this type of guest housing you may be surprised so keep that in mind! The location is bad for city or commuting via shinkansen but otherwise very nice for seeing temples and the quieter areas of Kyoto. We ended up walking to the subway each day (20 minute walk), also you WILL get lost finding this place. Consider this if you need to save money, it's not bad but there are better places.

Great place to stay

it's kind of difficult to get to the place as it is kind of hidden, but I talked to the contact person of the place and she went to pick us up as we were just a few blocks away. It is a small house fully equipied with the basic stuff. It's a great place to stay, is really near a bus stop and not that far from a subway station, in really peaceful neiborhood

Bonnes mais hotel très difficile à trouver et a 1 km de la 1 ère station de métro. Personne à l'arrivée pour nous accueillir. Pour le reste sympa à vivre quand on est seul car petite cuisine,toilettes jouxtant la cuisine et cloisons très fines. Équipement plus que minimal si l'on souhaite y manger ce qui était notre cas.Nous avons apprécié l'impression d'immersion
