Guests will have access to the scenic Cowpasture River frontage - great for swimming, canoeing or tubing. Guests may also enjoy hiking, basketball, tennis and volleyball. (The net on the tennis court will be taken down to store for the winter months)

If you plan on taking a canoe out on the river, we ask that you wear a PFD at all times and to canoe upstream and float back down and to get out at our beach area (where you put in). There is nowhere to pull out as you go downstream as it leads to private property. Please place the canoe back on the rack when you are done. We do have PFD’s that will fit a teenager however, you may want to bring your own to make sure you have one that fits correctly for an adult or small child. The river is within a short walk. We ask people not to park in the grass or down at the river.

Other things to note:
This is a tobacco free property. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on the grounds or inside buildings.

We have a great deal of respect for nature and do not allow fishing or hunting on the property and firearms are not allowed on the property at any time.

This is not a pet friendly home.

Please do not ride bikes, skateboard, or roller skate on the tennis and basketball courts.

Bath County has a 10:00pm noise ordinance. Please be respectful of our neighbors and other families staying in the rentals close by.

The posted speed limit on the campgrounds is 10 m.p.h.

Verizon works well. AT&T is spotty. We do have Wifi you can connect to.

We are located near the historic towns of Hot Springs and Warm Springs and the old railroad hamlet of Clifton Forge. Nearby attractions include: The Omni Homestead Resort, Garth Newel Music Center, the Masonic Theater, Douthat State Park, Lake Moomaw and Hidden Valley Recreation Area (located in the George Washington National Forest). Additional recreational opportunities abound with numerous hikes and scenic drives throughout the Alleghany Highlands. Perfect little cabin
Sadly we were going back and forth to the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington (About 45 mins away) to show so were were leaving before 6AM most days and getting back around 5pm so we did not have enough time to explore around the cabin. The location is just lovely and the cabin is well appointed, comfy and cozy. It is the type of place where you want to curl up on the sofa and read a book. This is a perfect spot to go up and see the lovely leaves in the fall and visit Goshen and Warm Springs. I am thinking about getting back up soon so we can explaore the area more.

Charming, away from it all property with tennis courts and fun amenities
We had a wonderful Easter weekend with our family staying in the charming, clean, well-stocked Cabell Cottage. We played basketball and tennis, and explored the beautiful property along the Cowpasture River. The kitchen was well-stocked to make an Easter dinner feast to feed a group of college kids. We left with wonderful memories and look forward to a future stay.

Dream Cabin
We found our dream cabin this past summer, nestled in the woods of Virginia, within walking distance of the beautiful pristine waters of the Cowpasture River. The cabin has acquired a rich patina, that is reflected in the beautifully decorated rooms by well placed antiques that capture the overall felling of age and charm. Not only is the cabin pleasing to the eye, its fully equipped with all the conveniences of modern day living. In this secluded hideaway, one can experience the joys of nature and be able to return to the comforts of home at Cabell Cottage. I left a happy camper and I'm eager to return!
