Thanks to its sloping layout, Alenquer has long been awarded the epithet "Nativity Scene of Portugal". Reinforcing the connotation, it is from 1968 that, in December, the hill of the village receives the color of the biblical figures of the Angels, the Boy God, the Virgin, Saint Joseph and the Magi.
The manger of monumental figures - the largest with about six meters and the smallest one meter and a half high - was conceived, according to its author, the painter Álvaro Duarte de Almeida, according to the figuration of the Portuguese painting of the XVI centuries and XVII.
