We were led by price, location, and the pool to Vanessa's house, and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of space for five, three of us late teenage boys (a good sized room each). The outside space was perfectly big enough, with the pool (and outside cold shower), private grassed areas, shaded table, and small, practical bbq looking out seawards. And lemon verbena for tea! Although the location is a bit odd - not village, town or country, more a sort of part-built suburban estate of quite grand buildings and scrubby plots - it is directly by a track to the coastal path that leads left and right to cliff tops and beaches - 15 minute walk to Coxos beach, good family beach with little bar, and to others beyond. None of the beaches was heaving, even in August. The fishing town Ericiera is a four minute drive, with many beaches (including safe pool made from the rocks), many great restaurants etc - it's prettier, more real and not as overrun in August as packed Cascais. Lots of supermarkets too - the fish counter at the Intermarche is worth seeing. Vanessa is a great host - there if we needed her. You are actually in Ribamar, which may have a beautiful heart, but we didn't find it. We found one unbeautiful late night bar, quite a walk away, but there are several seafood restaurants, some of which are clearly destinations from all over. The nearest looks modest, and is very good, with large portions for hungry people. When it got hot the breeze was lovely, and the house very cool. We had a very relaxed week - thank you Vanessa.
