Charming Lopez Island Cabin

Charming cabin/guest house, on the south end of Lopez Island. It is just a short walk to Mud Bay. Also in walking distance to three other great beaches. All walks provide tranquil beauty and serene opportunities. Lovely garden available for sitting in the evening, and great sunsets. This cabin is close to a well-crafted, cedar sided house, which matches the cabin, however, you can expect total privacy, as the cabin feels separate from the house and is a self contained unit.

Great location to explore Lopez Island
We really enjoyed our stay here at this cozy cabin, it was a great location to start exploring all the beaches and parks that Lopez Island offers. Our host was freindly and the bed was comfortable. We didn't spend much time in the cabin, our goal was as much hiking and kayaking as possible, however it was a great spot to land when we were done. The only thing I would say to be aware of is that there was no reception for our phones and no wifi - we didn't mind - we just checked our messages when running into the village - so no problem for us.

Great experience. I spoke with the owner a couple times on the phone before our time at the cabin. No complaints. I would stay again.

It was quiet. Secluded! Hassel-free check in. The new add-on (bedroom instead of loft bed) was a good idea and well done. Heater worked great! Hobo spider in sink. Underwear and clothes left in shower. Toilet base heavy pee ring. Sheets super old and looked dirty. Pillows very stained, yellow, and flat. Blinds were see through (if existed, window over bed - no blind) and we had to hang extra sheets over them. Missing stated TV, VCR, and toaster oven.

Lopez Island VRBO cabin Review
Lopez Island is a beautiful island with many very friendly people. Most everyone waives at you as you drive past each other. Our rental was a nice, basic cabin. We rented for 7 days, and paid as stated. We then got a call from the owner asking us to check out a day earlier. She said she needed more time to clean for the next renter. Trying to be nice, we agreed. We were sent a revised billing showing an INCREASE in our rental rate so that the rent was the same, tax calculated on the artificially inflated rate, and the same fees. And a credit was made for less than 1/7th of what we had paid. We wrote to the owner thru VRBO and pointed out that we had expected a 1/7th reduction for helping her out. No reply. As the date approached, we talked to her about how to check in. We were arriving just after dinner. She said that she would leave the front door unlocked, and the key on the kitchen table. When we arrived, the only door was locked. We couldn’t reach her because cell service was not available. We tried under plants, and mats. We found a key under a mat of a door to the main house that was not the nearest door, or mat. After dark, someone did come by to make sure we had gotten in. We were surprised that she needed more time to clean, as there were few surfaces in the cabin. She should have blocked off the day before the next renter, who was already scheduled when we made our reservation. There was a rules letter on the table with complaints from the previous renter. As that person stated, there are milk crates behind the main house, but no labels for what recycling to put in each. There is no closable gabage container, and animals had already strewn about garbage from the previous renter. The BBQ pictured is not there. Only 1/2 a roll of toilet paper was left for her. Thankfully, that renter had left 3 rolls for us. The kitchen wall, bathroom wall, wall above coffee maker, and dining area wall, near trash baskets, all had food or other splatter. We cleaned these, but weren’t happy about it. Someone had left a mouth guard in a drawer under the sink, that the cleaner missed. There were lots of towels, but no blankets, just a bedspread and 2 small throws. The heaters work very well. There were far more knives than needed, but the first one I grabbed was not clean. Of the 3 dinner plates, 2 were cracked and chipped. Two reading lights by the bed were nice, but one didn’t work, despite changing the light bulb. The “brand ne

Terrible Experience, Good Host
Our stay at this Lopez Island property was short-lived. Upon arriving at the property, all evidence of the previous resident was still there: the kitchen was not put together, the dirty laundry was piled on the kitchen table, the trashes were still full, and there were no sheets on the bed. I was forced to drive ten minutes back down the road to get service to get in touch with the host Karleen. Unfortunately we came to the decision to refund the trip, and she was happy to refund the ferry ticket. All of my interactions with the host were good, but the house itself was disappointing. My partner and I were looking at sleeping in the car if we didn't rush to make the last ferry back to the mainland, with no other options of staying on the island.

Loved the solitude of my stay on Lopez. Great spot for exploring the entire island. Lots to see and lots of hiking on the beach. Would have been nice to have a barbecue, I assume that I was an early spring guest, just not out yet! Highly recommend this lovely little spot!

Quiet weekend away
Karleen's cabin is a perfect spot for a quiet weekend away on Lopez Island for one person or a couple. Very clean space and easy to check-in. Kitchen is equipped with basic cooking supplies for simple meals; the propane grill is a nice addition for cooking. The cabin is directly next to the main house (hard to tell from the pictures) but I had privacy throughout my stay. Would come again!

South end Lopez is sweet
Our three night stay in this cozy cabin on the south end of Lopez Island was sweet. My husband enjoyed biking in the morning while I had my tea on the front porch, and we both enjoyed hiking and hanging out on various beaches around the island. The location of the cabin was convinient for exploring and quiet in the evening; bed was comfortable and we slept well. We appreciated being able to cook dinner on the gas grill, as well as driving into the village for some lovely meals. We would stay here again!

The perfect cabin on the Southend
The photos don't do it justice. The cabin is a perfect size for one or two people wanting to explore Lopez Island. It has a quiet retreat feeling with everything you need to make a breakfast, have a glass of wine or make an occasional dinner. The island has a grocery, natural food market and a great Southend market for all of your food and beverage needs. Plenty of places to eat, so no need to worry about making meals. The southend is a perfect place to explore from.

Resting with the Forest
This well-built cottage, with high ceilings in the main room/bedroom, was a wonderful respite from the city for me. I had written in my comment to the owner that I was making a private retreat, which she honored completely. While her house shares the lot at close proximity, I never saw nor heard her. I felt completely supported in my need for solitude. The cottage is situated off the main road on the quiet South end, so I did hear, and see, occasional cars passing in the mornings I was there. But in between and throughout, were the songs of house wrens, towhees, robins, chickadees, a raven family passing through, and the crackle and crunch of deer in their daily forage through the property. At night, the only sounds were the forest, which included the deepest and most nourishing silence. I slept so well. It was a great launching spot for my afternoon hikes and walks around the island, and very close to the an excellent general store (and, I'm told, restaurant). The neighborhood is also quiet, with Karleen's beautiful garden down the hill, and a pasture across the road, that was filled with sun for most of the day. I would stay here again and look forward to a second trip to Lopez in the future.

We really enjoyed our vacation in Lopez Island. This cozy cabin had been on my radar for some time.
A vacation to remember. We spent 10 days exploring all of Lopez Island had to offer. A day of adventure at Friday Harbor. This cabin is tucked away in a serene setting, with a calmness that deer would visit. We where pleasantly surprised how quiet and still the nights where, so we could truly relax. Even thou the cabin is small that gives it a homey, warmth like feeling. It was perfect for just us 2. The kitchen was compact thou it had basically all you need. Having only 2 burners made you think about how to cook wisely. The Barbecue was an extra bonus and worked like a charm. A yummy cup of coffee, out on the porch was a perfect way to start your day planning where you want to want to explore next. The bathroom was clean and the shower felt soothing after a long bike ride threw unknown territories. The dinning table served itself well. From breakfast to plotting out hiking trails to biking destinations to late night card games. Every night we would scope out a different dock to enjoy a glass of wine and a sunset. One night, we biked to a close dock, sat down but ended up watching more of the otters and fish jump, we missed the sunset. Moreover, there where no mosquitoes torturing us. The queen size bed was firm and heavenly to sleep on. Like we mentioned before the quietness was unbelievable. We never realized how noisy our life style had become until this. Despite we were there in the summer we took advantage of the ec. wood stove. It heated up the cabin in a jiffy. The morning can be chilly. We did have WIFI and could enjoy some old classic songs through Pandora to reminisce to. The cabin was just a quick bike ride away from the SouthEnd Market/Restaurant. We made a point to stop by daily and take part in their outstanding food and outside dinning. It was comforting to know if I needed any groceries, it was close. They even sold gasoline. We will never forget the hospitality we where shown by the staff. They made us feel like friends. The larger grocery store is about 15 minutes away. Located in The Village. Which we recommend visiting. That is where you will get your tourist needs fulfilled. Haven Restaurant was one of our stops. With there fabulous view. Watching the fisherman and sun worshipers motor in and out. This locale was great for us with little stress of flying and coin exchange. Gosh I didn't even mention the gorgeous coastline. A must is Agate Beach. Walk up to the cliff, we saw pods of whales and a baby breached at Ice Berg Point

Definitely off the beaten path.
The cabin is quaint and cozy and Karleen is an excellent host. For me however, it's a little too out of the way - my cell phone (AT&T) had no service, there's no tv in the cabin and for the first two days I was there, the entire island had no internet. So, if you're really looking to get away from it all and disconnect, this would be a nice place to stay.

Cabin in the woods
It was wonderful having a three-night getaway on Lopez Island in Karleen's cabin. It is in a perfect location to go exploring all the north end destination coves and the south end coves and beaches. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and well stocked. I appreciated Karleen's care to make sure I had everything I needed. She also graciously extends an invitation to sit in her garden to watch the sun set. The front porch was the perfect place to rest and relax after a day of adventure. This is an ideal quiet and beautiful spot for a retreat. I hope I get to return some day!
