Wine Country living at its best! Comfortable elegance awaits.

We enjoy our wine country life and would like to share it with you! Our two-bedroom, two-bath cottage sits in front of our CCOF-certified organic Syrah vines with its own private bocce ball court! Enjoy the setting of our vineyard and farm right out the french doors or from the upstairs deck. A short stroll – or ride on our complimentary cruisers – will take you to the heart of the historic charming town of Los Olivos where you can enjoy over 30 tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants. Our Bernat Winery Retreat is on our private property but in a private location from the main house. Luxurious bedding with down comforters and pillows, bathrobes, and locally crafted bath products made from grapeseeds from our vineyard, are just a few of the amenities you will find at the Winery and Vineyard Retreats at Bernat. For those who decide to make a meal at home during their stay, we welcome them to harvest lettuce and herbs from our 3-acre organic farm, also on the property. If you picture yourself coming home to a comfortable well-appointed wine country cottage after a fun day of touring Santa Barbara wine country, playing a game of bocce ball while watching the sunset over the vineyard and oak-studded hills enjoying a salad you just harvested, then you'll love the Bernat Winery Retreat!

Please note: We have Wednesdays blocked out for regular mid-week cleanings. If you would like to stay longer than a week, we can unblock the Wednesdays to accommodate a longer stay. Send me an inquiry and let me know your preferred dates.

You don't have to purchase a ticket to Italy to experience wine country living at its best!

Los Olivos and Surrounding Area: The 20+ tasting rooms, galleries, and restaurants, of our quaint little town, are a 10-minute walk (20-minute stroll) or a short bike ride away. We also offer complimentary cruisers. Our kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, there is a little market down the street (a 5-minute stroll). But with the world-class dining available in our area you might not want to boil water.
The Santa Ynez Valley comprises the Danish town of Solvang, the western-themed town of Santa Ynez, Ballard, Buellton, and Los Olivos. Aside from tasting the many vintages of the Santa Barbara County wines the valley offers; biking, horseback riding (in fact, if you have a horse and want to bring them, we have room for two), hiking, fishing, live theatre, movie theatre, shopping, festivals, surfing and much more. Santa Barbara is a 40-minute drive and the beach is only 30 minutes.
If you only stay two nights, you'll wish you have stayed more!

Amazing weekend getaway!
Wow, from the moment we arrived to the time we had to leave, we had the most amazing stay. Everything was so comfortable. The town of Los Olivos was fun to explore with incredible food and shops. We would definitely love to come back!!!

Absolutely Wonderful
We had a wonderful weekend and even though it rained, everything was amazing. Adorable little cottage in the vineyard and the host made it so special with all the extra touches. We will definitely be back and wouldn’t stay anywhere else!

Wonderful retreat with stunning views
Relaxing experience, a short bike ride from Los Olivos. The views are absolutely stunning and the farm provides fresh veggies for any meals you decide to make there. Love this place.

Wonder Stay in Wine Country
What a wonderful rental if you want to be close to everything in Santa Barbara wine country but also feel as though you on a secluded vineyard away from the action. The rental was perfectly described and had all the amenities we expected. You are within walking distance from Los Olivos and a quick drive to anywhere in the valley. The hosts were fantastic communicators and helped us with recommendations which were fantastic. We look forward to our next stay at the farm!!

Delightful!
All we could ask for, great accommodations. The host Sam was so helpful and his restaurant is a must stop as well.No need to drive to Napa, it is all in Los Olivos. We will return.

Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful property in Los Olivos. The owners were very responsive and easy to work with. The beds were comfortable, the house had everything we needed, and there were many special touches like a cheese plate, restaurant gift card, crackers and wine at the house upon arrival. The bikes were a fun way to get to town, which is a short ways away. The property is beautiful, and we enjoyed sitting on the front patio looking over the grapes.

Our second stay and we still love it!
This is a lovely space. The vineyard and mountain views are wonderful as well as the quiet atmosphere. It is a short drive to the center of Los Olivos and very near Solvang and Santa Ynez. Everything is provided for a stay including coffee, creamer & washer detergent. The Brenat Retreat is a great location for visiting wineries. We'll definitely be back again.

Wonderful, first rate experience
I loved everything about the Winery Retreat, from the bottle of wine and cheese plate waiting for us, the special toiletries, the cozy cottage, the lovable winery pets, and the location so close to Los Olivos. The host Shawnda was very sweet and communicative... Everything was perfect!

Spring visit to the vineyard
The Winery Retreat is a perfect getaway spot. You'll wake up in your fluffy bed to gorgeous views of vineyards and organic farms. The newly remodeled retreat is clean and tasteful and has plenty of supplies and room for a whole family or two couples to relax comfortably. The Mediterranean landscaping and private bocci ball court are enough to keep you lounging around and enjoying your getaway without having to go anywhere. It's a place you'll tell all your friends about and want to return year after year.

Great Spot in the Vineyards
Bernat Vineyard was the perfect place to stay in Los Olivos. The house was comfortable for two couples and had all the amenities you could want. In the morning, Sam explained the wine making process as they were barreling this year's harvest, and then recommended other local vineyards to visit. We followed his advice and were not disappointed. The house was also within an easy walk of town where we enjoyed dinner at Los Olivos Café. The next time we return we plan to spend longer time.

A Wonderful Getaway
My wife and I visit the Santa Inez Valley several times a year and have stayed at several different venues. This little slice of heaven is the finest place we have stayed. The owners pay close attention to every detail all the down to the complimentary wine, cheese and even half and half in the refrigerator for the morning coffee, which is also provided. We could of spent the entire time at the place. This is a definite do-over.

From the first email contact to the arrival at the property, this was truly a special place to stay!! Between the warmth of the hosts, the elegant touches within the property, and the magnificent vineyard views, we highly recommend this lovely retreat. What fun it was to use the cruiser bikes and go wine tasting and into town which was so close and convenient. Playing Bocce ball and then sipping wine at sunset made this such a memorable experience!! The food at Los Olivos Cafe was fabulous!!! This is such a great place to stay if you are seeking a wonderfully located piece of paradise!!!

Lovely Romantic Getaway
Whether you are visiting the area to go wine tasting, eat wonderful meals, or just relax & get away from it all, this is the best place to stay! We have vacationed in the area for many years. We have rented rooms in the nicest hotels, but never again. The beauty & charm of staying in this terrific cottage, overlooking a vineyard, has stolen our hearts. (Evidenced by the fact that this is not our first time here.) And perhaps the best part of it all are the delightful hosts you will find in Shawnda & Sam. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Awesome place.
This retreat was everything the description claimed and more. Private, gorgeous, peaceful. Ridiculous views of vineyard from bottom and top floors. Private bocci court was huge part of the fun. Great set up for indoor or outdoor dining. We liked being away from the heart of town AND being a quick 5 min drive (max) from it. We've stayed in a few amazing spots, and this was unique and totally special. Sam and Shawnda were on call if we needed them, friendly, and easy to communicate with as we led up to the trip and had questions.

Our New Favorite Wine Getaway!
We arrived late due to a delayed flight and was immediately at home in the wonderful, cozy cottage! The view from the upstairs bedroom was a delight every, single morning. What a great location to visit downtown and all the area wineries - five days was just not long enough! We had two amazing meals at Shawnda and Sam's restaurant - Los Olivos Wine Merchant. Top food and service! Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the gorgeous outside area or the bikes as it was unusually cold while we were there. A very good excuse for us to go back soon!

Waking up to a vineyard!
We have stayed at this property a number of times. It's a great location, a nice walk into the town of Los Olivos. It's a 2-bedroom house, with the backyard essentially a vineyard. The owners, Sam and Shawnda, always leave a bottle of their great wine along with some cheese, to welcome the visitor. The house is very clean, and has a full refrigerator and stove, which we used to make breakfast and some dinners. They also have a really nice cafe, which also sells wine, The Wine Merchant Cafe. Definitely will return!

Tremendous Weekend
All went so well from my family meeting Shawnda upon arrival, then afterwards meeting Sam. Perfect, comfortable & relaxing setting with a bottle of their finest waiting for us to enjoy. The view from upstairs and downstairs are postcard like. Riding into town was fun, very easy and convienent the many times we did. Why even venture to the wineries when there is so much to see, taste and enjoy locally. Thank you again Sam & Shanwda ... I am sure we will visit again!

Pristine place with great view and wonderful hosts
This was our first trip to Santa Ynez Valley. We were here to experience the wines from this region. In booking this property we were impressed by the beautiful pictures of the house and it's view. We were not disappointed. This place was pristine. The location and views were incredible and both Shawnda and Sam were amazing hosts. When we go back, we will not hesitate to stay here. Also, the Bernat wines are very good. Their Syrah's stack up against anyone else in the region. Thanks Sam and Shawnda. We look forward to coming back!!

Impressive
Absolutely wonderful! My kind of clean, super comfy, very welcoming. We needed to stay in the area for a college graduation. Even though UCSB is about 40 min away it was totally worth the drive. We loved the privacy. The views of the vineyard are beautiful! Very calming and peaceful. Perfect if you’re looking to get away from the city. We had family come over for cake and they couldn’t stop raving about the place. Didn’t want to leave. We all ate at the owner’s cafe. The food was fresh and delicious. Five stars all the way around. We are definitely coming back soon.

Little slice of heaven
My husband and I wanted to show my parent’s Santa Ynez Valley while they were visiting from out of town and Sam and Shawnda’s home was the best setting for the weekend. The property is surrounded by a huge gardens that were beautiful to walk through and a horse farm that made you feel even more connected with nature. Beautiful views from the patio were the perfect back drops to our morning coffee and breakfast and afternoon games of rummy. Check in was so easy and they had fresh snacks and wine ready for our arrival. The house is so charming and the perfect place the call home for the weekend. We will back. Hopefully sooner than later! Thank you Sam and Shawnda!

Beautiful getaway
This was a vacation in the vines. Shawnda and Sam were amazingly gracious hosts. Their kids were out playing and we're so friendly as well. They waved and smiled every time you drive bye. The house itself is private and well appointed. The view of the vines in the morning from the bedroom upstairs is breathtaking. Be sure to take Sam's your as it is very informative and gives you a sense of the passion he has for the product he makes. We will certainly stay again if we are able. Great and relaxing weekend.

Amazing Los Olivos Experience
We absolutely love Los Olivos. We usually stay at the Fess when visiting but decided to try something new- we sure are glad we did!! Staying at the Bernat Retreat was such a great experience for my husband and I and another couple. From arrival and meeting Sam and Shawnda and seeing their organic winery, to the complimentary wine bottle and cheese plate we knew we had discovered something special. The grounds are so pretty- the grape vines and beautiful Los Olivos backdrop are lovely to enjoy from the patio of the retreat. We loved being able to use the bikes to take into town. And absolutely loved playing bocci at sunset while enjoying some wine we picked up in town. Sam and Shawnda were not only great hosts, but they truly pay attention to all the details that make a stay special. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Bernat Retreat- enjoy yourself and relax in true Los Olivos fashion.
