"The location was really stunning, quiet and an authentic feel. Right next to a little village, where everyone is pleased to see you. The chef cooked us lovely meals every day. The host and his family looked after us extremely well. They really went above and beyond. We arrived as guests and left as friends. A magical place that I highly recommend."

"Our stay in this house in Nosy Be was idyllic. We spent about a week in this paradise and we would absolutely recommend it. Our family was gathering from all over the world and we could not have dreamt of a better place. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. "3 night booking. I arrived at about 9pm on the first night after a long and tiring journey, but my room was not ready. I had to wait about 30 minutes whilst staff went to get towels and soap, as well as a floor-standing fan - there was a fan already in the room but it was broken with the guard cover on the floor. "This is a small property with maybe ten bungalows. Unfortunately it it quite close to a marshy area so there are mosquitoes. The staff are friendly the restaurant food very good. There is a nice pool and sunbathing area. Walking to and from the property at night is not very well lit. Realistically the things we found negative are not the owners fault, but I thought I should note them. 5 minute walk to a lively area with bars and discos, and the beach."

"I must admit that I was a little concerned that staying at a resort so isolated we might be “ prisoner “ to over priced food and drinks. My fears could not be further from the truth. The food and drink here is very reasonably priced, and very good. The chef comes to you, yes he comes and finds you, then you order your meal, and arrange the time you would like to eat and you sit down, the meal arrives. Everything here is done with the guest in mind. The day trips offered cover everything you would want to see, the resort has its own boat, so it’s easy to arrange whatever you would like to do. Phillip is always available to answer your questions. He’s been doing this a long time, there are loads of staff on the property. If you would like to spoil yourself in an unspoiled paradise book book book"

Beautiful hotel but Nosy Be is for s*x tourism

"La Perle Rare is a beautiful hotel. The bedroom was beautiful and immaculate. The bathroom felt luxurious. The Belgian owner was super helpful in helping me to arrange daytrips and transport to/from the airport. The rest of the staff were also very friendly and welcoming. It's only a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel to the beach and the main road of restaurants. But be warned - tourists don't tend to swim at this beach because the water is dirty. My negative comments don't relate to La Perle Rare - they relate to Nosy Be in general, but not sure where else I can capture them to warn others. Nosy Be (as well as several other areas across Madagascar, sadly) is full of white European men - mostly French and Italian - who visit for s*x tourism. Old, unattractive, white European men. Who sit in lines at bars and oogle the local 'women' (often under 18 - so often children) and choose their prey. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world, so they exploit this by paying for cheap s*x from those desperate to make ends meet. I thought I was seeing things, but a bit of Google research confirmed my suspicions. Including a UN report titled 'Madagascar: UN rights expert calls for greater efforts to tackle child s*xual exploitation'. I felt disgusted and ashamed to be a fellow white European. The amount of child pr*stitution is awful. It's undeniably a beautiful island, but I won't be going back there in a hurry as the uncomfortable feeling of being there was pretty intense."
