Velkommen to Hÿgge House! The word Hÿgge (pronounced "hoo-gah") translates as "cosiness", but it's not just about warm lighting and candles. Hygge is also a mindset – it's about relaxing and being kind to yourself, rather than going without a certain food type or drink, or embarking on any sort of activity that could be emotionally overwhelming. This fantastiske 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home has been lovingly restored and renovated for the ultimate vacation retreat.
Hÿgge Haus has been taken down to the original locally grown Chestnut beams, then built back with all new solid oak-trimmed windows, new insulation and soaring cathedral ceilings in the upstairs clad with locally-grown and milled Hemlock,
The owners painstakingly restored this craftsman beauty with the highest standard in the most livable village in all of the Catskills. Come experience its uncommon mountain feeling, authentically curated in a tranquil and soothing setting. All while enjoying unusually reliable and fast internet streaming with exceptional cell service you don't usually find in the Catskills Mountains.
The owners have a strong European and Scandinavian influence in their lives. Alpine skiing is in their blood, and an authentic mountain lifestyle and aesthetic comes through in the design and feeling of this mountain village abode. Avid skiers and ski racers will appreciate the ski storage & ski tuning room available in the ground floor of the back guesthouse. Enjoy being less than a
twenty-minute drive from two alpine skiing mountains, Bellearye & Plattekill, while still being situated in a quaint village setting where one can walk to main street for coffee or a meal and buy groceries on foot.
In the spring, summer and fall (or even winter!), sit on the enclosed front porch with the window open and enjoy the soothing sounds of flowing water from the creek that flows up the street into the river behind main street. Keep your eyes open and your cameras ready as a family of bald eagles who nest in a local tree just north of town regularly patrol the river hunting for the various types of trout that inhabit these local waters.
Don’t forget to enjoy the view from the upstairs balcony, where you can sit and enjoy a drink in all four seasons while watching the sun set behind the mountains. Come rain, snow or sun it’s a great place to sit and reminisce about your day’s adventures and contemplate tomorrow’s explorations.
We are excited to see our vision come to fruition for this four-season mountain getaway, and we hope all of our guests will love this haus and charming village as much as we do!
