A last minute visit to bath and prices of accomodation were through the roof. The Swallows was a drive out of town but reasonably priced. It was dark when we arrived and as it is off the main A road was difficult to locate. A telephone call guided us in. We had booked a double room, however we were shown into a twin room. Finding the host in her private quarters (she seemed lovely and amenable) was met by the "husband" who appeared a little grumpy and inhospitable. We were moved to a double room without any fuss.
The room and whole property is of a very high quality and I would mark the facilities as 10 out of 10.
Breakfast was promising, pre booked, juice and cereal, a full English breakfast, tea and toast (other options are available). Satisfying but not at the same standard as the property - I will not critique the food but if you break an egg whilst cooking it, put another one on and give the broken one to your husband not your customer.
My wife and I then relaxed for an hour in our room with beautiful countryside views, packed and took our things down stairs to say thank you and goodbye.
Guests were in the dining room, I could see the gentleman through a partially open kitchen door, I didn't have the courage to knock again and yet manners directed me to say thank you. No we just left, in the car and away.
It served our purpose and we left happy enough for a wonderful day enjoying the pleasures of Bath.
