In short, Casa Kuxtal made our stay in Merida magical. The kids lived in the pool when we weren’t climbing Maya ruins, touring museums or eating cochinita pibil in one of the many nearby restaurants. The house is stocked with everything you need (and nothing you don’t), including the kitchen. While the central location can’t be beat, it’s a quiet oasis once inside and in the back garden. To top it off, Esteban (our host) was quick with communication and very accommodating. Make this your Merida home base, you won’t be disappointed!

Month stay in a Historical Merida
Our month stay in Casa Kuxtal could not have been better. The house was spacious and very well equipped. (There we're even things like spare light bulbs and batteries.) In the Merida heat, the dipping pool was greatly appreciated. The location was perfect. It's a short walk to the heart of the Centro, but far enough away to avoid the congestion. However, it's a very short walk to some of the best restaurants. If you want to eat in, you can find what you need close by.

Peace and tranquility in a vibrant city - perfect
A really beautiful house in a beautiful city and was just what we wanted for out four week stay in Merida. The colonial style house was lovely and it had been very well renovated. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a cool, relaxing place to put your feet up after a day touring or before going out for the evening and then a good nights sleep. The location is excellent in the Historical area of the city. The city atmosphere was vibrant, the food was excellent, the various art galleries interesting and the entertainment in the evening at the various squares was fascinating. We were well looked after by Tom and Helen for whom nothing was too much trouble the place was kept spotless. This was our first time in Mexico and it won't be our last and it may well be back in Casa Kuxtal. Well recommended

Wonderful location and beautiful home
The location is perfect for exploring Merida. If you are driving, the on-street parking is a piece of cake. We always found a spot within a block. Driving around the city is easy and many parking options. We enjoyed this property very much. Everything you need as far as the kitchen equipment. Caretakers were great folks who gave us really good suggestions of what to do and where to go. Only drawback, be sure to discuss the electrical surcharge not mentioned in the VRBO rates.

Amazing property, amazing location, amazing hosts!
My mother and I stayed for 6 nights at Casa Kuxtal and it was nothing short of spectacular. The house is even more gorgeous in person, especially the back yard! You are literally located on the main street that cuts through town and finding your way around is very, very easy (and Merida was extremely safe). While the house was great, what really made the trip special were the hosts, Thomas and Helene. They were available at any time and were very, very friendly and helpful. They emailed us a list of activities and places to eat and nothing disappointed. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun-filled getaway!

Best option
Casa Kuxtal was the best option for me and my parents for our trip to Merida. We loved to stay at Kuxtal House, the beautiful architecture, the comfort, were just perfect for us. Location is super central but still quit and private. The renovated colonial house is beautiful and it had everything we needed. Communication worked great. I would love next time, to stay again in this beautiful place. Thank you Steban.

great house
Casa Kuxtal is close to markets, grocery stores, parks and is within walking distance of the central plaza. The house is nicely decorated and the King bed in the master bedroom is very comfy. We loved our stay in the house, which offered lots of privacy. Toma and Helene were friendly and helpful and were a delight to deal with. We had a wonderful time!

Perfection
My husband and I have visited Merida many times. This was our first time staying at a house. We found this home and fell in love. It was central to everything we wanted to do, and at the same time we had our very own little paradise to come back to every night. We had everything we could possibly need. I can't wait to do this again next year! A great escape from the North East cold! Thank you for providing such a beautiful and comfortable home for us.

Fabulous home and experience!
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week in this lovely home. The size and layout were perfect, the kitchen complete, and the pool SO refreshing. Everything was spotless. The neighborhood was quiet with a cute little grocery store a couple of blocks away where we got all we needed. Restaurants Chaya Maya was great. Highly recommend, would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Charming House, Perfect Garden
My daughter and I spent 8 relaxing days at Casa Kuxtal. The house is lovely, casual and comfortable. The pictures are accurate. We did not need the a/c, the ceiling fans worked well for us. The kitchen appeared to have everything one needed, although all we did was make coffee! It was just so easy to walk around Merida and try all the delicious street food and fabulous restaurants, why bother cooking?! We loved the little market at Santa Ana Park, and bought fruit there every morning for breakfast. The location of Casa Kuxtal is perfect. No car needed as it is really easy to walk everywhere, and taxis are inexpensive if you need one. There is something going on every night. Our favorite was the Police Mariachi Band who just happened to be playing in Santa Lucia Park, which is lovely with all the outdoor restaurants. The house managers were great, and respond immediately if you need them. Great house for a couple or family.

A destination in itself
Staying at the lovely Casa Kuxtal greatly added to our enjoyment of our 8-night (too short!) visit to Mérida. The owners have done a top notch job with the renovation, drawing out the home's historic character (gorgeous tile floors, restored antique woodwork) while tastefully modernizing the kitchen and baths. The courtyard is a peaceful oasis, where you can even hear the choir singing from the nearby church. Do remember your mosquito repellent - on days when it isn't windy, they're a problem. We didn't try the A/C, the ceiling fans were enough during our stay. Plenty of dishes, cutlery, coffeemaker etc. Took us some googling to figure out the cooktop - there's a switch on the wall, then the trick is you have to have a pot on the burner before it will turn on. Didn't find an iron, but I wouldn't swear there isn't one somewhere. Wifi was solid. Owners were very responsive, and the caretakers very nice and helpful. Pleasant and safe walking to everything, even at night. If we come to Mérida again, I will arrange the trip around the availability of Casa Kuxtal!

Lovely near the park
We stayed four days in a very comfortable and beautifully furnished home in the Santa Ana area of Merida. It was VERY convenient for walking to many places of interest. It was very hospitable. The owners and the caretakers were all most-friendly and helpful. We would happily stay again on a future visit to Merida.

Thank you!
Casa Kuxtal is a dream home in a dream town. The house is warm, welcoming, full of charm and in such a wonderful location. Plaza Santa Ana is a hub of activity with restaurants, shops, and close to everything you'll want to see and do in Merida. The house managers made sure we knew our way around the city, and that we saw some things outside the city that most visitors may not have the opportunity to experience. Owner Fernanda and Esteban are also very caring people. Casa Kuxtal will exceed your expectations!

magical colonial beauty.
My wife and I were in Merida for 10 days at casa Kuxtal. Half the time we spent inside this wonderful house. I can't say enough good things about it! So beautiful and spacious. Israel was so nice and helpful and welcoming despite not speaking english. We are hoping to come back to the great spot next year :)

Charming, Peaceful, Convenient
Our week here was pure bliss - from soaking in the pool to napping in the hammock. Casa Kuxtul is equally convenient to Centro and Ave Montejo. Kitchen was fully equipped, the bed comfy, and owners easy to deal with. We'd stay again and recommend to friends.

Peaceful Retreat
This is a wonderful house in a great location. The rooms are large and pleasingly furnished and the tile floors are a pleasure to look at. The real gift is the garden with access off the main living space. It is quiet and peaceful and offered us hours of relaxation. Napping in the hammock was a treat! The support of Israel the caretaker was invaluable. The location, with its nearby market and stores provides good walking access to all other parts of the city. An assortment of restaurants were in easy reach. We would definitely consider coming again.

Nice house
Wonderful house. The owners were so easy to work with, helpful and accommodating. The location is great. A grocery store and Mercado very close. Thank god for the A/C! Nicely stocked kitchen. Some minor A/C problems which were taken care of within hours. Yes, I would stay there again.

Nice house and nice location
I was very happy to see that the home does look like the pics. The park next to the home has a nice market with several restaurants plus a few more restaurants on the street next to the park. Paseo de Montejo is a very short walk from the house. It takes about ten minutes to walk down calle 60 to get to the main plaza. It's also about a ten minute walk up calle 60 to fiesta Americana hotel (several chain car rentals there) if you decide to rent a car while there. I did rent a car for a few days and had no problem finding parking next to the church on calle 45. I enjoyed the small market on the corner of 60 and 45, the bakery on the other side of the park for breakfast items, the cafe two blocks north for quiche, and the grocery store two blocks south on 60. As for the house the one indoor and one outdoor bathroom worked well for me. The outdoor shower was terrific - I used it every day while there. The patio and pool areas are a nice place to spend some time. I didn't cook anything while there but the kitchen is nice and has a full set of cookware. The microwave and refrigerator were all I needed. The caretaker does not speak much English but he does carry a laptop with him and can pull that out to translate when needed. He was nice enough to schedule a taxi for us - something that would have been difficult with our less than stellar Spanish. Overall the house is nice, the price is nice, and it's a good location.

Very Cosy house!
Casa Kuxtal was the perfect place to stay for my week long trip. The location is ideal to discover downtown and many tour places are available in the area. The outside shower is not that bad and when I had a problem with one of the toilets the manager fixed it within a few hours. The pictures are not misleading. I have been to Merida many times and this place is a good deal.

Best for two people and for short stays
I arrived in Merida planning to stay in Casa Kuxtal for 6 weeks. Communication with the owner was very good, he always got back to me quickly. I have been visiting Mexico, and have lived in Mexico for short periods of time, since the 1970's. I think I have realistic expectations. The location was very good. Calle 60 is a busy street, with lots of street noise, but this is true in most historic downtown homes. The location is convenient to the main square shopping and markets. The pasta tile floors are lovely, the white washed 18 feet ceilings and wooden doors and windows feel so uniquely Merida. The backyard is in poor condition and needs some work. The stepping stones are about 4" above the dirt level you can easily hurt yourself if you miss a step. There are weeds between the stepping stones. The pool edge is also higher than the dirt level, making it trecherous to use the clothes line which is necessary since there is no dryer. The maid hangs the sheets and towels on the clothes line once a week, then leaves. During rainy season you have to make sure and bring everything in to dry in the house draped on furniture if you want clean, dry towels and sheets. The description wasn't accurate in that the 2nd bathroom is outside near the laundry room and does not have a shower. When friends came to stay it was difficult for them to have to walk through the backyard in the dark (and sometimes the rain) to get to the guest bathroom. The outdoor shower is near the outdoor bathroom but not idea for showering at night or when it's raining. The solar heater necessitates letting the water run for 3-7 minutes for hot water. There were not enough pots and pans for four people to cook. The faucet in the kitchen leaked. There was no hot water in the kitchen and no water filter. I boiled water to wash the dishes. The armoires in the bedrooms are small and some of the space is taken with bedspreads and other household items. Not ideal for long stays. I rely on honest reviews from travelers and I know that several of the reviews on this home were written by the next door neighbor and friends of the owners who may have stayed, but if they did, they stayed as friends of the owners. This is very disappointing. This house would work best for two people staying for less than a week at a time.

Perfect Location
What a lovely surprise Casa Kuxtal was! We just got back from five weeks there and it was a perfect place to come home to after a full day of touring. The rooms are much bigger than the photos suggest and it was perfectly located...the Santa Ana market right next door to the church for our fruits, vegtables and chicken, and a super market not even a block away on Calle 60. Add to that, two excellent bakeries near by (a French one right off Calle 60 on Calle 41) and a place to get fresh ground coffee also on Calle 60 and we were in heaven. The church bells of the Santa Ana church were glorious to hear each day and we could walk to all the events Merida has to offer every night.

Beautiful house, stunning decor, super relaxed, perfect location
My friends and I had an amazing experience in Merida while we stayed at Casa Kuxtal over Christmas. Firstly, the location of the house is perfect. It is just far enough out of the very centre of town to be away from the noise and traffic, but close enough that it is only a short walk away. Plus, it is right next to a beautiful 'plaza' and cool little markets, and is the more artistic quarter of Merida such that there is an amazing gallery across the road and many boutique stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, and other small galleries nearby. Secondly, there is of course the house itself - WOW! As beautiful as any old majestic mansion with Mexican charm in every corner. The spaces are massive, there are hammocks everywhere (inside and out), the beds are super comfortable, the bathrooms very cool and nicely decorated, the swimming perfect for morning and afternoon swims, there is a rooftop garden and outdoor shower too, and the massive dining room table was ideal for the 10 people we had during our Mexican Christmas feast. Oh and of course there are all the conveniences of fast internet and television for films and great sound system - but these really are a second thought after everything else. So yeah - overall - cool place, cool location, comfortable, good times!
