From sandy strolls to boogie boards, and golfing within easy reach, this Bajan beach has something for everyone.

Situated near the southern tip of Barbados, Miami Beach (or Enterprise Beach, as some refer to it) is a great spot for all the family, with everything from tidal pools for the little ones to respectable waves for the not-so-little.

Cross the coral sand to the beach's western end to explore the tidal pools. Keep your eyes peeled for ghost crabs and sea roaches. You may even see some of the locals gathering sea moss from the pools this is used to create a local health drink which is rich in antioxidants.

Move from the calm western edge of the beach to the more exciting eastern side. The stronger swell of the water here makes this area popular with boogie boarders and surfers of all abilities. Boards can be rented from the numerous vendors lining the sand here, as can beach chairs and all manner of beach paraphernalia. This section of the beach is patrolled by lifeguards who will signal any potential danger to those out on the waves. Under the right conditions, this is also where experienced surfers will find some of the best surfing on the island. A word of warning however: the cliff area is best avoided, especially at high tide, as it can be hazardous.

If you decide to venture away from the beach, a good spot to visit is South Point Lighthouse. Built in 1852 to light the way around the island for ships on the way to and from South America, this is one of the best places around to take some truly stunning photos.

Slightly farther afield (7 kilometres to be precise) is the Barbados Golf Club. With some amazing views and the option to take lessons and rent equipment, this 18-hole course is open to the public and well worth a visit.

Miami Beach is at its quietest during the week. This is the perfect time for a secluded picnic (or you could buy some delicious local fishcakes from one of the nearby food trucks).

Miami Beach is located 11 kilometres south of Bridgetown. It's best to get a taxi or a shuttle to the beach as on-site parking can be quite limited.
