With more than 200 permanent exhibits, the Michigan Science Centre is one of the largest of its kind in the US. All aspects of science are explored here, from space exploration to high-tech engineering to the principals of physics.
Start your visit in the main hall. Here, various activities, interactive exhibits and scale models will introduce the whole family to various different scientific fields. Once you've taken all of that in, head to the Steel Fun Factory to learn about the fascinating world of industrial manufacturing. Get to grips with civil engineering at its finest as you cross the Mini Mac Bridge. This scaled-down model is a replica of the mammoth Mackinac Bridge in north Michigan.
The ever-popular Space area features towering models of rockets, simulated rocket launches and a captivating moon-landing exhibit. Head upstairs to Motion, where interactive exhibits demonstrate the properties of light, X-rays and radio waves, and explore the laws of motion and mechanics. The hands-on Health and Nutrition area teaches about the benefits and pitfalls of various foods and lifestyles in a fun and informative way.
The centre's fascinating live shows will appeal to children and adults alike, and are held at the Energy Sparks Theatre, the Nutrition Kitchen, the Science Stage and the Engineering 4-D Theatre. Or book a film at the IMAX Dome Theatre for an immersive cinematic experience. Whatever you do, don't miss the Michigan Science Centre planetarium, one of the finest in the world.
If you're visiting with younger children, Kid's Town is a must. A state-of-the art play area for under-fives, it develops basic motor and cognitive skills while introducing elementary scientific concepts.
