Model T Auto Heritage Complex featuring interior views

Come to the place where the Model T was created, tested and first built and get fascinating insight into the car that changed the world.

From the outside, the Model T Auto Heritage Complex appears to be just another faded former factory. Venture inside, however, and you’ll find the walls are alive with captivating exhibits on antique cars, recounting assorted tales of automotive history that revolutionized the way we all live.

Following a change in Detroit’s zoning laws, it became apparent to prominent city preservationist Jerald Mitchell that the famous Piquette Avenue plant could be in danger of meeting the wrecking ball. He alerted the Henry Ford Heritage Association and 3 years later, a group of preservationists, Model T enthusiasts and historians teamed up to purchase the building, creating the Model T Automotive Heritage Complex.

Learn all about the iconic Model T and find out how this vehicle, through its lightweight yet durable design and capacity to be repaired easily, captured the motoring public’s imagination. Hear informative tales by guides about how this vehicle and its relative affordability quickly helped it become the must-have product for normal families and changed the lives of people everywhere.

Inspect vintage Model Ts as well as some of Henry Ford’s less successful creations. See a re-creation of Henry Ford’s 1908 office.

Bring your camera and take plenty of pictures at the Model T Auto Heritage Complex. The light, especially on sunny days, in the industrial space is perfect for immortalizing your trip and helps make the vintage vehicles shine. While the setting is ideal for photography, it is not ideal for keeping warm, as the building lacks heating, so dress warmly.

The Model T Auto Heritage Complex is located in the Piquette Avenue Industrial Historic District in the heart of Detroit. Access the museum by private vehicle free parking is available adjacent to the complex. Alternatively, ride the public bus here.

Opening hours at the museum vary seasonally, so check directly with the facility before planning your trip. There is a fee to enter the complex.
