Excellent quiet house in ancient village
We enjoyed our stay: the house is very large and well equipped and on a large property. The village is peaceful and quiet. Jean and Pierre were both extremely pleasant and helpful. We toured the fortress and church and learned so much about the village, and its history. Recommended!

Stunning Private Country Home in Burgundy
If you’re thinking of spending time in Burgundy, La Bulniere is the place to stay. It is a stunning private home in a pastoral setting with views that are the envy of landscape painters. The house is the best of two worlds: the charm of a hundred year old chalet, plus careful renovation to take full advantage of the light and views and provide every modern convenience. The owners restored the house as their family’s retreat from life in Paris and now make it available to us. While you’ll feel a serene sense of natural beauty and privacy here, all the supplies you’ll wish for to take advantage of a spacious chef’s kitchen are available fifteen minutes away. For a convenient dinner out, there are two quite acceptable restaurants in easy walking distance. We had a full agenda of sights to see and things to do in Burgundy, and could not have chosen a better vantage point to make our home. A full week’s worth of day-trips are highly accessible from Mont-Saint-Jean, including wine tastings, castle-tours, premier town and village wandering. To confess, we came to La Bulniere for a week, and stayed for two. After the first delightful week, feeling invigorated and renewed, we headed for our scheduled time in Paris. It was like attending a rock concert in Madison Square Garden, after a weekend at Tanglewood, picnicking on the lawn, listening to Vivaldi. We wisely noted there were some open nights, and we cut our Paris time short to reengage here and leave for home feeling refreshed of body and soul. This trip from our home in the states has extended over two months, through four countries. We would rate our time in La Bulniere as the most rewarding, renewing, unexpectedly pleasant and satisfying place we’ve stayed. All of this is only possible due to the efforts that Jean, its owner and your host, puts into making it so. He personally greets you upon arrival and takes the time to see that you are comfortable with all aspects of the house and environs. His display of sights information is made accessible to you and all your questions are patiently engaged. He is personally available to you for help and information during your stay. He is an international businessman, fluent in several languages including English and his native French, the proud father of three boys, and with a love of travel, architecture and the sharing of fine things. You can be sure we’ve made plans to be here again for the best of next year.

Beautiful Burgundy Estate in Medieval Village!
Everything presented in Jean’s VRBO writeup is accurate. His home is beautiful and inviting....immediately decelerating you to the wonderful pace of the French countryside. Jean could not have been more considerate and accommodating. Truly a superb host! We found the location to be excellent as it allowed us access to most all of Burgundy within 1 to 1.5 hours. And our daily excursions were fully enjoyed as we drove across the country roads in rural France rather than the highways.

Excellent choix

Peaceful charm and comfort!
My husband and I stayed at La Bulnière for 10 days, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The house was built around 1900 with all the charm that implies, yet the interior has been modernized very attractively to provide guests with all the conveniences. The bathrooms and kitchen are beautiful, as well as the custom millwork pieces installed throughout the house. One of our favorite rooms was the living room with its two comfortable chairs positioned in front of the bay window. The view is spectacular, and we spent a LOT of time looking at it. Mont St. Jean is charming, too, and we explored the château, the church, and the other historical sites. We loved the fact that the village is so quiet and peaceful (the main sounds are cows and roosters!); coming from suburban Chicago, this was a great place to unwind and enjoy a vacation. Furthermore, we used Mont St. Jean as a base to explore Burgundy, and that was easy to do with a different destination/ activity each day. We covered a lot of territory during our 10- day stay. And lastly, the owner, Jean, was exceptionally responsive and nice, and we really enjoyed meeting him! We look forward to returning to Burgundy, and we would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful house in the countryside
A huge and beautiful house, old but with every modern applicance and good heating. Beautiful garden and view. Lovely decoration, very elegant, a well accomplished mix between classic (lovely cristal lamps) and modern, it had the feeling of an upscale boutique hotel and at the same time was very cozy. . One of the small bedrooms had bunk beds and was ideal for children. It is next to a small medieval village. You need a car and there are no shops in the vicinity. All the bedrooms are in the second floor so not ideal for people with reduced mobility or small children. Great kitchen. Very nice owner, constantly availabel on the phone and email.

A Wonderful Week in Burgundy
We recently spent a wonderful week at La Bulnière in Mont Saint Jean. As the pictures suggest, the house has a fairy tale quality and wonderful, spacious grounds, which help to make a stay there particularly pleasant and restful. There are ample places to sit and enjoy a coffee outside and we also enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in the lounge each morning, admiring the view. The house itself is very clean and spacious with good facilities including an espresso machine. We also appreciated the ease with which we could access Wifi. There is plenty of space for all to relax and 'do their own thing' when required and, during the alternate days we spent at the house in between sight-seeing, our nephews were frequently found at the table tennis table. The village itself is, as others have said, absolutely charming and so peaceful (even though Jean assured us that it was the 'busy' season there!). Supermarkets are within easy reach in Saulieu and Pouilly (only 15-20 minutes drive) and we found it helpful that the one in Saulieu was open until 12:30 on Sunday morning (the day after we arrived). In terms of sight-seeing, there are many interesting locations to explore and we enjoyed a visit to Semur en Auxios (a medieval town about half an hour away) as well as to Dijon and Beaune. For children, the ruined castle at Thir makes an interesting visit, with medieval games to play in the castle grounds. Jean himself was a very welcoming and helpful host who was very keen to ensure that we had everything we needed. As others have stated, he is also very prompt in responding to questions in emails which was an excellent help as we prepared for our visit. All in all, La Bulnière is a wonderful location which we would warmly recommend to others and we very much hope to return one day in the future.

Pure Rest and Recuperation in Rural Burgundy
Are you seeking the ideal rural retreat that provides privacy and comfort ? Do you enjoy an extensive garden with views over the countryside ? Do you appreciate a kitchen to allow the amateur enthusiast realise their culinary ambitions ? Do you expect to be as comfortable as at home, with all the conveniences ? Do you hope for a well maintained and super clean holiday domicile ? Do you expect to be welcomed by a friendly and helpful owner happy to hand over his home to your care ? Look no further. La Bulniere fulfils all the above and more. We have enjoyed three weeks of complete R&R for three generations in this spacious villa. The house is exceptionally well mainained, exceptionally clean and the owner, Jean, goes out of his way to make one feel extremely welcome. He is ever available online to address any queries that may arise. Wifi and internet provide excellent communication links for those who feel they are totally cut off from the world in this rural corner. Being tastefully furnished, it is a haven in which to relax should the weather prove inclement. The village is quiet, populated more at weekends, but the local people are friendly even to those with rudimentary French. The rural walks around the village on roads with little traffic, are ideal to tank up on fresh air and admire the peaceful countryside,. Negotiable also for prams. Further afield Beaune and Dijon are reached within an hour by car whilst many other towns and villages of note are also within easy travel distance. My children and grandchildren likewise gave their undisputed approval of the villa so this is not solely a destination for the other end of the generation scale ! A car is essential if only for shopping, some 20mins distant.

Perfect small village in Burgundy
My wife and I were traveling with our good friends and we were looking for the idyllic Burgundy experience and we certainly found it in this property. This home simply epitomizes country charm yet has every possible modern convenience. The first floor living area and kitchen make for a wonderful social center and the grounds are spectacular. The village of Mont-Saint Jean is small and absolutely charming and the location is convenient to most of the area highlights. The owner of the property, Jean Delisle, is the perfect host. He familiarizes you with all the workings of the property and was always available to answer any questions that may arise. I should also add that prior to our arrival any questions I contacted Jean about were answered within an hour which made this rental experience smooth and hassle free. We have rented numerous homes throughout France and this was far and away the easiest experience. Lastly, I would like to add a recommendation for the restaurant Les Roches which is located literally next door to this property. We dined there on two occasions and the meals were excellent. The first evening we were made to feel very welcome and the second evening we were treated like long time friends and regular customers. If you stay in Mont-Saint Jean don't miss the opportunity to dine at Les Roches. A beautiful region and a lovely property made for wonderful experience.

Look no further!
My husband and I have been renting through Homeaway for over ten years. We know what to look for in a rental in terms of physical setting, indoor comfort and location. We always read reviews. But we have never been as thrilled with what we rented as this time! Jean is the perfect host. He met us at the house and gave a full tour, including the coffee, water, etc., that he graciously provides. The house is huge but my husband and I felt cozy and comfortable. Whether we were sipping wine in the gazebo, sitting on the terrace outside the bedroom, reading in the living room, cooking, playing scrabble, or strolling in the quaint town, we always felt we were in the right place. The town is tiny. The homes are medieval stone structures and the people are lovely. Everyone was patient with my husbands attempts at French! The house is next door to a fabulous restaurant where we spent our first and last nights! This is a vacation for people who like the beauty of the country side, and wonderful wine and food. Most excursions require a 30-50 minute drive. But there a castles, chateaus, wineries and restaurants that are worth the ride. If this is the kind of vacation you are looking for, then this is the rental for you! You will be thrilled!

Ausgezeichnete Villa, toller Host

Amazing country home
6 friends stayed at this amazing home in the Burgundian countryside. Mont St Jean is a small village, several kilometres from the nearest town. What a find! It was like stepping into another world. How to describe it? The photos don't do it justice. The home is large and comfortable with every possible amenity. On the ground floor on one side of the hallway, is a large room. At one end is a sunroom with a bay window looking out on the grounds and the distant fields. In the middle is a comfortable living area with tv and at the other end is a luxurious modern kitchen with all the necessary amenities for preparing your meals. On the other side of the hallway is a large dining room, as well as a laundry room with washing machine, dryer etc. Upstairs are 2 large bedrooms, each with their own shower and wash basin and very comfortable beds. A shared toilet is across the hallway. The one bedroom has a balcony and large window overlooking the surrounding countryside. 2 more bedrooms are located on the other side of the hallway. One has a single bed, the other has bunk beds. They share a luxurious bathroom. All the rooms have their own personality, with fascinating artwork and décor. The grounds are equally stunning. There are a couple of secluded areas for enjoying a quiet cup of coffee or a glass of wine: or you can play table tennis outdoors, or just wander around the grounds. To cap it all off, there is a superb restaurant next door. What more could you ask for? I wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks to Jean for letting us share your home; what a find!

Escape to the Beautiful Burgundy Countryside
We came on holiday to Burgundy wanting to get away to a village in the French countryside. La Bulniére is a beautiful estate in the charming medieval village of Mont Saint Jean and was just what we were looking for. The location is central to Burgundy and perfect for day trips to Beaune, Dijon, wine tasting, and touring the region. Jean, the owner, met us when we arrived and made sure that we settled in comfortably. He even delivered some special coffee for us when we were running low. On the first floor the home features a full kitchen with a dining area, a large adjacent living area with tv, a formal dining room and a large, sunny laundry room. There is also a powder room toilet in the central hallway under the stairs. The house also has wireless internet throughout which functions very well. The second floor has 2 master bedrooms with ensuite showers and sinks (no toilets), a powder room toilet in the hall, and 2 smaller bedrooms (one twin and one with 2 bunk beds) which share a large full bath (tub and shower) and toilet. We were just two couples, and so had plenty of room and privacy, but this house would be also great for a family with children. There is a wonderful restaurant right next door, "Les Roches" (check out the great abstract expressionist artwork which is for sale), and another fabulous one in nearby Saulieu, the Michelin rated "Bernard Loiseau." We loved using this beautiful home as a base of operations for our trip to Burgundy. We hit most of the highlights of Dijon and Beaune . . . even shopping the Saturday market in Beaune with a chef, and then preparing and enjoying a gourmet meal. It was wonderful to explore all the historic medieval villages and cathedrals and visit wineries, but it was even better to come home to our own little village, open up some great Burgundy wine, and enjoy the view from our grand estate! I highly recommend this beautiful property.
