El Casot, a tranquil retreat with pool in its own valley 30 miles from the sea

El Casot at Can Llouquette is a recently renovated holiday cottage, ideally suited for up to two adults, though one baby can also be accommodated. It is private, has it’s own entrance, a well-equipped kitchen, living room, double bedroom, toilet and shower and it’s own terrace overlooking the forest with BBQ and garden furniture.

Can Llouquette itself is an old apple farmstead with several buildings set in 20 acres. It has a large child-friendly pool set in a mature garden with lawn surrounded by forest and hills. We have a vegetable garden, meadows and about 1km of stream which has a plunge pool, picnic tables, BBQ, swings (and in high summer hammocks).

What makes Can Llouquette extra special is that it is set in its very own little valley. It is extremely private with no neighbours. We are surrounded by nature and there is no light pollution so the night sky is a delight. At night all you are likely to hear is the stream, the fountain, owls, boar and the occasional bark of roe deer. We have our own animals including chickens. Gorgeous mountain walks are possible from the house and within a short driving distance.

This is real unadulterated nature. It is stunningly beautiful and peaceful and at times capricious and unpredictable it is nature as few city people encounter in modern life. For us it is intoxicating. We have had to learn to become totally self-reliant. If you are the kind of person that thrives on busy towns and constant connectivity it is most likely not for you: we have no TVs, mobile reception is poor in the mountains, we do have Wifi (but we cannot always guarantee that because of storms). But instead of this you get the sound of the river, glorious sunshine, occasional wild summer storms, balmy evenings and lots and lots of peace.

It is this that makes it the perfect peaceful rural location to escape modern life, because you are truly enveloped in nature. The perfect place to detox and completely disengage from the pressures of the daily grind.
And yet, amidst all of this peace, our small village with bakery, cafe and restaurant is only 5 minutes away. And the sleepy medieval villages and market towns of Serralongue, Prats-de-Mollo and Amélie-les-Bains as well as Céret (and Camprodon in Spain) are all within easy driving distance. Wonderful seaside towns like Collioure on the Mediterranean and the beaches and bays of the Côte Vermeille are only an hour away.

This is the Eastern Pyrenees, the most southerly valley in France. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty only thirty miles from the Mediterranean at the start of the Pyrenean mountain range. We are only 25 minutes from Spain and can be reached from Girona or Barcelona, as well as Perpignan airports. In fact there are six airports that service this area. We are happy to give advice on travel.

We have four restored private and secluded holiday cottages for rental:

- El Casot (for two people)
- Le Pommier (for two people)
- La Bergerie (for four people) and
- L'Atelier (for four to six people)

Each accommodation is secluded and private so you can choose how much or how little you wish to interact with ourselves and the other guests.

We have restored the property and land over the 15 years we have lived here. We love all the area has to offer and can give plenty of advice to help you get the best out of your holiday: be that markets, things to do with children, walks, the best restaurants etc.

We speak English, French, German and Spanish and are happy to help in anyway we can.

Idyllic retreat
We spent an idyllic week at Simon's breathtaking property, and were so reluctant to leave; we would happily have spent an entire month there. The cottage is utterly charming, rustic stone with lovely interiors. With the windows thrown open, the sound of running mountain water and birdsong was ever-present. The cottage is beautifully appointed, including a full kitchen with everything one needs to self-cater. The property itself is simply idyllic, surrounded by mountain trails for hiking, and tthe stream with several access points, including the most beautiful spot for bathing in the cool, clear water, surrounded by butterflies and dragonflies. Simon is an impeccable host: warm, funny, engaging, and helpful. His dog, Blue, is also a wonderful companion, who happily accompanied me on hikes and swims, and always made sure I found my way back home safely. I can't recommend Simon's hospitality and property highly enough. This is an utterly beautiful part of the world, a delightful fusion of Catalan and French culture and landscape, and I can think of no better base to explore its many charms. Thank you Simon - we do so hope to return to visit you soon!

Memorable stay at Can Llouquette
I stayed at Can Llouquette for a month. This stay will be engraved in my memory for a lifetime. I was astonished by the location and the surrounding beauty. The house is located near a nice river between two mountains, in a very preserved environment. The accommodation is very well furnished, nothing is missing. Simon is a fantastic host! He welcomed me warmly even though I arrived very late at night. He is very kind and honest: he arranged an upgrade for me to be more comfortable. We shared meals in the evening and had good times. I am looking forward to go visit him sometimes.

A wee gem
Great stay, great time. We'll be back. My wife and I were new to the area, but we can see the attraction. We had great walks; an easy visit to a sleepy village over the mountains in Spain; awesome wine; Ceret was amazing; did I mention the awesome local wine? Very clean premises. We've still much to explore in the area, so we're planning our return. Back home, we've been buying wine from Languedoc-Roussillon where ever we can just to remind us of our trip.

Lovely stay in the mountains
Can Llouquette is a lovely little place high up in the mountains. We stayed there for a week together with our one year old daughter. We had a wonderful time: swimming in the pool, making walks and visiting the mountain villages. The place is perfect for coming to rest in your holidays. El casot is a charming gîte, it had everything we needed and a beautiful view overlooking the forest of the mountain. Simon, Ashley and Sophia are very friendly and warm people. They gave us fantastic advice. They were always ready to help us with all the little things we needed or had questions about. Ashley took care of fresh bread in the morning and Simon's enthusiasm for the mountains and nature was contagious. The place felt as home and we hope to return again. We absolutely recommend it.

Stunning gite holiday
My mother and I had a wonderful holiday in this beautiful location. The gite is surrounded by mountains and we had everything we needed and more. The accommodation was spotless and spacious with beautiful natural character and special personal touches from our hosts, who couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. Mum especially liked our day-trip to Spain. So grateful to Ashley and Simon for giving us such a wonderful place to stay.

A hidden paradise in the Pyrenees
We have spent here one of the best holidays ever. The location is just great, the surroundings are breath taking and they offer endless possibilities: from easy walks in the woods to more challenging trekking excursions in the nearby mountains. Interesting historical sites -both from the Spanish Civil War and from the WW II- are also close at hand (Ceret, La maternité d'Elene, ...) The sea is quite near, so you can have a refrreshing swim in no time. The facilities are top notch and Simon, Ashley and Sophie, the owners, are wonderful hosts. They run the place in a sustainable way, growing their own vegetables, and cooking them too!! They know the area like the back of their hand and provide you with a lot of info and suggestions of things to do. In a nutshell: a place not to be missed!!

Peace and quiet and an excellent walking base
beautiful large well maintained grounds with a pool. Plenty small spots to read and while away the hours. we stayed in two of the properties and both were superbly equipped, couldn't be cleaner or more homely. Simon is a great host and a mind full of useful information. If you like climbing this is an excellent base. the best place tI've stayed so far in France. Only an hour from the coast and close to a wide range of walks from easy to strenuous 8 hour hikes it is ideal for outdoor lovers. Its pretty hard not to relax here, so if you want a break from work, the emails and tv this is perfect.

Bliss
The gite we stayed in was exactly what we had hoped for- an oasis of peace and tranquility with plenty of things to see and do within easy reach. There are walking trails everywhere and no shortage of quaint villages to explore. There are good restaurants quite close or better still grab some top quality meat from the friendly butcher in Prats de Mollo and barbecue under the stunning night sky with a bottle or two of the local brew. Simon and Ashley were the ideal hosts - they couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. Both have s a fantastic knowledge of the local area and were only too happy to help in any way they could. 5 stars, we'll be back.

Great, hidden retreat
I stayed at the Casot for a few days and really loved it. The gite is immaculately clean and beautifully restored. There is a great wood stove to take the eve chill away if you are staying in autumn/winter, the kitchen is fully equipped and all fittings are great quality and above what one often finds in gites, at the same time the price is really reasonable. Simon and Ashley are great hosts and know the area well. Can highly recommend it and I am going back for an extended stay in spring '15!

Rustic Serenity
The cottage was perfect, well kept, comfortable, and very well insulated. I was quite surprised how hot the place got in the middle of winter. We had to open up windows to cool it down... It uses a wood-burner for heat, and it was greats sitting in front of it and being hypnotized by the flames. It was my technology getaway, and it inspired me. Ideal for a weekend away, anytime of year. plus, animals are amazing... the sheep aren´t timid, they have fresh eggs, from their chickens. I wish humanity could go back a couple years, so we could live like this again...
