Authentic Vintage Cabin • Woodstove • Romantic Getaway for Two
Escape to an original 1920s Mount Hood cabin with firelight, handcrafted charm, and the perfect cozy setting for romantic getaways.
If you’re searching for an authentic cabin—one with history, charm, and handmade details—Cedarwood Cabin awaits. Hand-built in 1922 and lovingly restored, this is real Mount Hood heritage, ready to transport you back in time for quiet evenings of connection.
At the heart of the cabin is a beautiful enamel woodstove. Light a fire, settle into the cozy couch, and let the evening unfold with books, board games, vintage records, warm blankets, and the soft glow of vintage lighting.
Sleeping & Layout
Cedarwood is a classic one-room cabin, ideal for couples. The double bed sleeps two, and the futon couch folds down for an additional sleeping spot.
Kitchenette
The kitchen is simple but well-equipped with essentials: a plug-in hot plate, griddle, microwave, coffee grinder, French press, and a full assortment of dishes, utensils, and cookware. There is no oven. Prefer a night out? Restaurants and brewpubs in Welches are just minutes away.
Bathroom
The bathroom is only a step outside the back door (with covered entry). Inside, it’s fully remodeled with a subway-tile shower, sink, toilet, cedar shelves, and a twist-timer heater for comfort during chilly mornings or evenings.
For Guests Accustomed to Modern Homes
You can absolutely fall in love with Cedarwood’s charm—but please know this is a true cabin, rustic and simple by design. You won’t find a TV or modern luxury finishes. You will find history, character, and handmade, old-world craftsmanship.
What You’ll Love
• No TV—just books on hiking, wildflowers, and Mount Hood history • Soft blankets, handmade pillows, and a snug couch for reading or cuddling • The peaceful patter of rain on the roof
The Setting
Cedarwood sits on a small loop road of cabins and homes—quiet, safe, and neighborly. You may see someone walking a dog, but privacy is well respected. From inside, your view is filled entirely with trees.
Conveniently located just off Highway 26: • <5 miles to Welches • 5–10 miles to popular trailheads • 15–30 miles to ski areas • Easy year-round access; no 4WD required Guest access The entire cabin and property is available to guests, including the outdoor river-rock firepit (excluding burn-ban season) Other things to note RUSTIC BY DESIGN Please know that this is a true cabin experience. It is not a modern house with some decorating touches to evoke the "style" of a mountain cabin—it is an ACTUAL CABIN. Think of it more like “glamping.” The bathroom is a step outside (though covered). For some, this may be their first experience with rustic and feel like they are truly "roughing it." For those who love to stay in places like yurts, lookout towers, wall tents, tiny houses, and tree houses, Cedarwood Cabin will feel like magic!
PRIVACY Located in a small loop road with about a dozen or so other cabins and homes, you can see neighbors from the property. (So while it is indeed a getaway from the city, please do not expect to be deep in the wilderness.) However, from the inside, you’ll feel transported. The views from the windows are filled with trees, and the Pendleton wool curtains can be drawn to make your cabin experience all you own.
This is a classic 1-room cabin. The floor plan is open. Dividing the space between bedroom, kitchen, and living room is a plank wall, and curtain. Ideal for couples. But please note the minimal privacy for more than a solo traveler or couple.

My husband and I stayed in this amazing cabin on a weekend away. It was cozy and rustic. Well furnished and stocked with wood for fires both inside and outdoors.
Cedarwood is a beautiful, cozy place to getaway. My husband and I felt very relaxed and comfortable the entire time we were there. The cabin is so clean, smells amazing and stocked well. The log fireplace was also a huge bonus!
We stayed for 3 nights and had such an amazing experience. The location feels secluded from the outside world, which made the cabin that much cozier. Its a rustic getaway that we'll most certainly be returning to!
Had such a great time here. Very cozy, came stocked with everything we needed. The guest book was very helpful, we got a great lunch recommendation and fire building tips. We will be back!
Beautifully restored cabin in a lovely setting, with easy access to a variety of trails and amenities.
We appreciated the detailed descriptions of local hikes and restaurants. Thank you, Ian, for sharing this historic treasure and your love of the area.
We loved staying here, it was rustic, simple and relaxing. I loved the rich history and the care and thought Ian put into making the cabin enjoyable. The selection of books, a beautiful wood stove and a little record player added to the old time vibe. Thanks to host Ian for preserving and sharing this gem with us all.
Cedarwood is a special place. It is rustic but still has modern amenities. The location is the perfect launching point to all the outdoor activities that Mt Hood has to offer (we went on several awesome hikes). Ian is the ideal host and was very attentive to our needs. We would absolutely stay here again.
We loved our stay at this cabin! It was so relaxing and cozy. The games and record player were a big hit with our five year old. Also, the host was very quick to respond when I asked for a few more towels. Highly recommend staying here!
My huaband and I stayed here for pur anniversary with our newborn. It was just perfect- cozy and quaint with a perfect cabin smell. It was surrounded by beautiful trees with lots of great places to eat and beautiful hikes around us. It was super easynto check in and Ian was a great host. He provided a lot of helpful information and got back to me immediately when Inhad a question prior to check-in. Thanks Ian!
Comfortable, cozy, and cared-for. The Cedarwood cabin was a perfect location for a winter week of reading, writing, napping, playing music and games, and just catching up with ourselves and one another. Making use of the wood stove for heat meant that I could also get warm splitting some logs if I felt like it, but had an ample supply of fuel laid up already. Thank you Ian for your care and attention to us and to the cabin!
Stepping into this cabin, you can tell the host has thoughtfully and carefully worked through each detail to capture the history and beauty of the area. The cabin was so peaceful, with sounds of rain and the river nearby, beautiful lookout windows, and the comfiest bed. Woodstove kept us toasty warm (after a couple of failed attempts to start a fire), and the bathroom located just outside the cabin was the perfect refreshment needed.Kitchen is stocked with everything needed! Delicious waffles and coffee was had. The hot plate situation may look a little daunting, but we were able to cook up meals easily.Such a wonderful, peaceful stay! Highly recommend.
This cabin was cute, cozy and clean. We appreciated learning about the interesting cabin history. It was a great home base for quick, easy trips to beautiful places like Little Zig Zag Falls. In retrospect, I think we would have preferred a place in a location where we could have done some exploring/hiking without driving. The cabin is in a quiet, wooded area with other houses around, but there didn't seem to be any trails immediately accessible. Otherwise, fantastic!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cedarwood Cabin! This rustic and romantic location enthralled us with it's history and charm. It transports you back to a simpler time. The thoughtful but simplistic decor, the ambient Edison style lighting while listening to big band vinyl by the wood stove hits just right. There's also some great literature about the history of this cabin and specific area of Mt Hood Village which is fantastic.
Host Ian was excellent in communication and really cares about the historical significance of this cabin. It shows in the attention to detail that he gave. We will definitely be returning some day.
Rustic, comfortable cabin. Specifically stated no fires and neighbors had fires going both nights we were there, also barking dogs kept it from being nice and quiet at night. A shame. Other than that great stay.
Rustic, cozy, historical cabin was charming for a winter break
Enjoyed the coziness and reading about the owners journey to renovate and restore the historical cabin. Pretty basic amenities for a five-day stay. We left a day early as we were ready to get back to the luxuries of a full kitchen and indoor bathroom, but we did enjoy the cozy fires in the stove and the walks down to the Sandy River every day. Skiied one day at Timberline and just rested and relaxed. Oh, the bed is actually a double, which was a bit uncomfortable for my 6'3" husband, but we made do. I think the listing calls it a queen. We had booked based on that. We loved discovering Koya Kitchen/a roadside attraction a few miles up the highway. Great food, amazing bar menu, including obscure and delicious sakes.
Cedar and woodsmoke aromas. Enjoyed building fires as the source of heat and charming atmosphere. Just one quick step through back “porch” to the thoroughly modern (and heated!) bathroom adds to the reminder of days gone by—but it’s so much more comfortable now! Great place to unplug. Let the fire die down and snuggle under the feather comforter through the night. Wake to warm coffee in bed and pancakes on the griddle (if your partner gets up first!) 😉
