We stopped for an overnight stay on a four-day road trip. This hotel had very good ratings and a pretty cheap price. We found out when we got there the reason why.
The hotel has undergone a sale, is changing its name to Spark, and is in the middle of a massive remodel. There were huge rolls of carpet in the lobby. Construction was ongoing so there were supplies and material stacked in the drive. And the smell of paint fumes throughout. That was the reason for the reduced price. We stayed because it had already been paid for.
The actual room was quite nice and clean. The seats were clean. The water was hot. The amenities in the room were nice.
The breakfast, if you can call it that, was basically toast and bagels. There were no proteins. So if you want eggs or sausage, you have to go eat somewhere else.
Thankfully, once you’re in the room, you could not smell the paint fumes
I would’ve usually given this hotel 4 stars. Because of the crappy breakfast, I would’ve given it 3 stars. Because of the surprise construction, paint fumes, and having to walk around construction equipment, I am only giving this 2 stars
