Riverfront Cabin With Small Beach Short Drive From Nauvoo

Situated along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi just a short drive from Nauvoo, IL, this cute cabin is just the place for you if your ideal day consists of exploring outdoors during the day and resting your weary head at night. Nestled in the middle of nature, this cozy, non-smoking cabin is small, but it has everything you will need including a fully equipped kitchen and full-sized bathroom. You will feel like you are camping, but with more amenities including a new window air conditioning unit. The cabin can comfortably sleep four people, but it will accommodate up to six on the new mattresses and couches. If the steep driveway is a problem, you are welcome to park at the bottom of the hill.

Because there is no TV or internet, you will have plenty of time to explore the grounds. As long as the Mississippi River is not too high, you can spend the day on the beach. Be sure to look for eagles because there is a bald eagle's nest nearby. If you simply want to relax with a good book while the kids play and explore, you will be able to do that on the new deck. With Nauvoo being so close, you could also explore the many attractions in town before heading back to the peaceful riverfront setting. At night, enjoy building a bonfire on the beach using the occasional driftwood that washes up when the river is high.

This is an uninsulated cabin in the woods. More like camping than a hotel. Please look through all the pictures before booking. If you have dust, mold, or pollen allergies and would not camp outside because of them this will not work for you.

Amazing stay!
It was so beautiful! The view was amazing! The cabin itself was decently maintained. Other than bugs, it was just fine.

Wasn’t able to make it to the cabin due to weather conditions on my end, but I was able to get in contact with the owner very easy! She responded very quickly and was very understanding! The pictures looked wonderful and the property looked beautiful from the pictures!

Cabin on the Farm
We had a wonderful time. We did a lot of exploring in Shannon County. The cabin couldn't have been nicer. The bed was comfy. I loved listening to the frogs at night. It's peaceful and very private. The internet worked ok, but it sometimes took awhile to load. We had no cell signal. We have US Cellular. Andrew and Anisha we're very responsive to our needs. The property is a bit out of the way. I would suggest once you're there to limit your travels.

Perfect
This was a geode hunting/ fishing/ bday trip for my 15 year old and his best friend. The cabin, the location, the inside, the outside... it was exactly what I had hoped for. If you are an outdoorsy person and enjoy unplugging this is the perfect place for you. My main fear was critters - 4 and 8 legged, (but again, ready to deal with because that goes with getting away) but to my very pleasant surprise the host had a space heater running when we got there - which means any creepy crawlers had obviously been shooed away by the frequency of the host going to the property. And the cleanliness!!! Again, my expectations were realistic for a cabin in the woods... But this was better than some hotels in my hometown! The sink was actually cleaner than the one in my home! The location. Oh my gosh it was everything. RIGHT on the Mississippi meant the teen boys could do some serious night fishing. The fire ring on the beach was a great bonus. Being able to sit in a chair and listen to the waves, or walk the shoreline looking for rocks, or reading a book on the patio... It was the ultimate get away weekend. If you are an outdoorsy person and understand what it means to unplug, this is the place for you. I already want to go back. 10/10 recommend and will hopefully be back soon.

"Cottage" on the Mississippi
Suggest finding the place during daylight. This place is literally right next to the Mississippi River on an embankment and very dark at night, which is not a bad thing, but one really doesn't want to drive into the river! It was a bit difficult to find. Based on the price, which was great, I wasn't expecting too much, but with a little more care and some serious cleaning, it could be a really neat place. Given that and having experience and a cabin of my own in Colorado, these are my suggestions: CLEAN SHEETS! (In the Master space, they appeared blood-stained and dirty.) CLEAN MATTRESS COVERS! (There were none.) NEW OR CLEAN PILLOWS! (There were no pillow covers under the pillow case and they were pretty dirty and stained. Always a turn off!) EXTRA BLANKETS! (Fortunately, we had brought a few of our own. It was cold that weekend in October. If we had had another person with us, there would not have been enough to go around. As it was, we took a summer cotton blanket off of the bunk bed and happened to find a quilt in a cabinet.) SCRUB THE BATHROOM THOUROUGHLY AND WASH THE RUGS. PROVIDE AN EXTRA TOWEL FOR EACH PERSON IF THEY ARE STAYING OVER 2 DAYS. (Went into town to purchase some extra towels.) PROVIDE HOOKS TO HANG THE TOWELS ON. PROVIDE MORE THAN ONE ROLL OF CHEAP TOLIET PAPER. (We also had to purchase more toliet paper.) Otherwise, we had fun in the area, but mostly we were at the cottage at night. BE AWARE that there are NO groceries stores in the area. The closest one, I believe, was 15 miles away in Carthage, IL. We ate out a few times in Nauvoo and did what we could with food from Dollar General. CHECK-IN WAS EASY, once we found the place! PROVIDE AT LEAST 1 ROLL OF PAPER TOWELS or clean kitchen towels. (We also had to go purchase.)

Cute fishing cabin
Wish it had not been too windy to fish during our stay. Cute, modest cabin, accurately described. Not fancy but lovely view of the river and a nice little beach.

Location is the big draw
When I stayed here the rental was around $50 on a weekday, plus the cleaning fee. This I think is priced correctly for what it is. You are paying for the location right on the Mississippi with a private beach. The cabin is modest, and will meet basic needs but is by no means going to be a luxury rental. If you set your expectations to the description, you will not be disappointed. Had this cabin been priced over $100 a night I might have given a different star rating. What the cabin is like: Small, but liveable. We were going to have 4 people stay but ended up we only had 2. Cabin was PLENTY big for two people. 4 might have been a little bit crowded but there is PLENTY of outdoor space... so perhaps not. The cabin has a full (but small) kitchen. Sink, microwave, fridge and stove. I didn't ever find an oven mitt - so I used a towel when I reheated some food in the oven. Had basic silverware and plates, pots and pans. I wish there would have been tin foil on hand, but no big deal! No laundry at this cabin. There is a shower tub combo in the bathroom, there is a set of bunkbeds on one end of the cabin and a full size bed on the other. A couch could also serve as a bed, and there is an empty loft area, that could be slept in if you had an air mattress handy. The window air conditioner will keep the cabin cool unless it's sweltering out. Didn't make too much noise - was pleasantly surprised. Door locks and unlocks with a code, felt very secure here. no issues! There are no curtains on the front windows of the cabin that face the river. This was no big deal since no houses are in the way and no one drove down the road, very remote location after all. There were curtains on the sides of the cabin to block the view of any neighbors. We did find some random bugs in the cabin, but this was not unexpected. You are in the middle of nowhere and it's bound to happen. I was surprised there were not more actually. There is a fire pit and I wished I would have had chairs along I would have enjoyed that - perhaps next time. For those less squeamish, there were some deck chairs on the porch and plastic chairs in the yard but, they were covered in spiders and cobwebs, so I didn't want to clear them off. Took a nice walk in the evening and at sunrise down the road, absolutely great! There was even a small waterfall just up the road that was really nice.

Thrifty Perfection
We are a thrifty couple with three young kids and this was perfect. The view, the cabin, the easy drive to Fort Madison for a bit of shopping, good food/coffee, and history. Mostly we enjoyed splashing in the river though! The high was 85 and the air unit kept up well enough for what one should expect in a cabin. Would definitely come again!

Awesome Location but very musty
Location is beautiful and right off the river. The front doorknob was pretty loose when we checked in. Cobwebs in all windows. Would feel more safe if door was nice and tight and secure. It was very very musty. Couches smelled like cats or dogs terribly. Bedding and towels were nice and clean smelling though. My sons allergies were horrible to the mildew and we were unable to stay another night as planned. If you're sensitive to that kind of stuff then use caution. She was amazing to work with and refunded the next night. She was quick to respond and understanding and we appreciate her working with us and truly wish we could have stayed because location/view wise it was a 10/10.

Enjoyable and relaxing
Loved the location and privacy. Beautiful view from the front window over looking the Mississippi River. Loved being able to walk down the beach looking for rocks and viewing wild life. Only complaint was the bathroom and kitchen. Food items had been left in the refrigerator and left over soap items and unclean trash can in bathroom.

Great location, needs a few things.
It was the prefect size for our stay. The location was great! It needs some help though, the windows need curtains, the heater did not keep the place warm enough, it could use a TV, and the flooring needs to be replaced.

Nice but needs updating
Cabin was OK but really needs updating. Furnishings were outdated and there were no blinds or curtains in front of cabin. The only pair of curtains were in the bedroom and needed to be replaced. It was on the Mississsippi River which was great but a 3 mile drive down an unpaved rock road was stressful. I hope some updates are made which would not be difficult and would definitely have made it more enjoyable for us.Good communication with owner we appreciated and the quiet peaceful setting we enjoyed also.

Mermaid cabin girlfriend trip
Great place - right across a gravel road to your own little beach on the Mississippi River. Cabin is cozy and cute. Our only complaint is that upon driving up, the trash (located behind the cabin) was strewn about - maybe wildlife - but should have been emptied.

Affordable cabin close to Nauvoo with amazing view.
We enjoyed this location. The cabin is simple and shows its age. We felt it was relatively clean and found it easy to get to (easier after being there once). The beds and couches were comfortable. Location was relaxing. It did make us all review how much we need or don't need internet access. (The kids all figured it was essential. The mom feels that it was great to see the kids find other things to do.) Some details would have been nice (one burner was broken and dishsoap was almost gone), but were not essential.
