I bought The Nook to escape an abusive relationship. It was my first home purchase and it was my safe haven from the moment I walked through the front door. I wasn't the highest or best offer. I wrote a letter to the owners Aaron and Victoria, explaining my situation, telling them about my two kids, sharing with them the memories I dreamed of creating there.
They reconsidered and took my offer.
While my ex was away one week, I packed myself and the kids up and we found our new home. We LIVED in the Nook. That is the home my children will remember as their childhood home with mom. My nickname is Nola so when I lived there, the WiFi password was TheNolaNook.
In 2021, I took a risk in an attempt to change my paycheck-to-paycheck life. I saved, and saved, and saved. The kids and I painted the fun accent walls in each room, they chose the colors. I finally had saved enough to rent a small apartment for six months. If I had done my math right, I had saved enough that I could cover it and save enough to buy another house for us to live in, in six months. We ate ramen and beans.
We had our first guests.
They freaking loved it! We cried.
More people loved it, and we got more bookings.
We ate more ramen and beans.
And six months later, I bought the house across the street from The Nook from a wonderful woman named Lori who can honestly say she changed my life for the better forever.
We did it.
We turned the Nola Nook into The Navarre Nook and we couldn't be prouder of it to share with you. I know how lucky I am to be so close to the beach. I don't take it for granted for even a day. It is OUR JOY to be able to share this HOME with you. You will find everything you need (I really hope - and if you don't tell me so I can add it!) We left almost everything there for you to enjoy.
The mural framed on the wall by the dining table -
Last summer I dreamed up this image and sketched it out. The Navarre Beach Pier (the longest pier in Florida) spanning out on the right, sea turtles for my Grandmother, dolphins in the cloud shapes, an AC-130 Gunship (one of our local Hurlburt Field and Eglin Air Force Base plane types you will see flying low) pulling a banner with Navarre's former slogan "Florida's Most Relaxing Place", a young boy running with a CV-22 plane (this plane can take off like a helicopter and then turn the propellers to face forward MID-FLIGHT and is stationed here at Hurlburt Field), a mother looking on, and the Navarre Beach welcome sign. It was A LOT to ask, but I found an artist in Destin named Andi, and she was on board to take on this giant piece.
She NAILED it. I hope you love it as much as I do and slide that table out of the way to get a good photo with it! #GreetingsFromNavarre :)
