"We chose this hotel because it was an hour from Santander and just off our main route from Portugal to the ferry port for the UK. Lovely town with impressive old centre and lovely riverside walks. Lively market the day we arrived (Tuesday). Be aware that self-parking is actually free on-street parking but area seems very secure so we left most of our extensive contents in car and had no problem. Also,hotel restaurant non-functioning so sought dinner in town and nowhere open until 9pm. But...

"This hotel was an overnight stop off between the coast of Asturias and Rioja. It was very affordable. It did not have the charm of the old buildings but everything we could wish for was there. "There's an amazing view from the room and from the shared sun room, which was well heated for our Feb visit. It's very good value as well. Minor quibble is the service - key just handed to me wordlessly, and on leaving I just left the key on bar when I couldn't attract any attention. Also bear in mind that there's no breakfast and the evening food is cold meats / cheese & bread. May be different in season."
