Neustadt Market Hall Tours and Activities

Neustadt Market Hall featuring heritage elements

Browse the antique, confectionary, flower and handicraft stores of this modern shopping center set inside a grand 19th-century market hall.

Indulge in shopping and browsing at the Neustadt Market Hall (Neustädter Markthalle). Peruse a range of artisanal and boutique stores for eco-friendly, locally produced and one-of-a-kind goods. Dine at food stands and street food events and sample wines from around the world at an annual festival. Grab bargains at regular flea markets.

Visit Neustadt Market Hall for its history transitioning from a one-time military barracks as well as its delectable treats. It first opened in 1899 with over 200 stands. Large parts of the building were destroyed by bomb attacks at the end of World War II. The market received a massive makeover in 2000, which saw the refurbishment of its columns, stucco capitals, original iron staircases and wrought-iron railings.

Shop for everything from flowers and potted plants to tobacco, wellness products and wooden toys. Breathe in the invigorating aromas of a variety of baked pastries, coffee beans and infused teas. Watch tradespeople, such as a cobbler and seamstress, at work. Purchase handcrafted leather goods and fashion items. Browse an extensive offering of regional cheeses, fruits, vegetables and wines.

Visit on a weekend during the winter months for the flea market. Search for antique signs, chinaware, gramophones, secondhand books and vintage train sets, among other collectibles. Try some of the 650 wines offered at October’s annual wine festival. Feast on traditional German fare, including spinach dumplings and kürtőskalács (chimney cakes), at street food markets.

Find the market at the heart of Dresden’s Inner Neustadt (Inner New City) district. Public buses and trams stop close by and Dresden Neustadt railway station is a 10-minute walk away. Relax on the tree-lined, pedestrian-only Hauptstraße street. Visit nearby city landmarks, including the baroque-style Blockhaus palace, the Golden Horseman statue and the 18th-century Dreikönigskirche church.

Neustadt Market Hall is open from Monday to Saturday and offers free parking for 1 hour. The individual opening hours of each trader vary. Visit the market’s official website for more information and a schedule of events.
