A Quiet and Beautiful Mansion - Royal Tenenbaums in the Hudson Valley
Eight of us stayed here to finish out the summer in Victorian Gothic style. Upon entry the guests were in awe. The house is huge and beautiful. The listing pictures undersell the place; it’s even larger than the pictures make it seem. The steps, like the floors, do not squeak at all. Early risers can pad around without disturbing anyone. Not bad for a place built in 1881.
The place was well prepared for our visit. The entire house was clean—fresh towels, empty garbage cans, and no dust bunnies. The property manager left a generous welcome package. There are multiple Bluetooth speakers available. A big kitchen has everything you need to cook for a large group; dual ovens, plenty of burners, every utensil you need, and enough of them for a large group. The oven and microwave are older models. They work fine but the controls are clunky, and it took a lot of button pressing to get them started.
Don’t forget to bring sheet music: the piano is in tune and has a responsive, light touch. You won’t disturb anyone. The neighbors are far away. And the plaster walls do a great job of blocking sound. No one in the kitchen could hear us in the music room as we pounded away on the baby grand.
Eight people were swallowed by the house, in a good way. Groups can form and meander, merge and separate. We all easily fit on the screened porch, in the dining room, and the living room.
We loved our stay at this quiet and beautiful mansion, a perfect spot for large groups.
