Plum Island Beach Cottage now booking for shorter stays. February is available!

Winter on Plum Island is spectacular. Plum Island is a great place for bird watching and winter walks on a pristine beach. We are now booking for shorter "get-a-way" stays for the month of February, 2025. Grab a breakfast or lunch at Mad Martha's and then take a walk to see the historic Pink House. It may not be here for much longer! Lots to do in downtown Newburyport which is minutes away.

This home is a spacious, comfortable two-story cottage. A pleasant retreat with easy access to swimming, kayaking, bird-watching, and sunset-viewing, as well as the restaurants, galleries, and other attractions of Newburyport, and Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Sandy Point State Reservation. A moment's walk to Plum Island Beach on one side of the house and the tidal Basin on the other, 2-mile cycle, walk, or drive to the Refuge entrance, and 4 miles to Newburyport center.

The first floor has a cozy, cottage feeling, including: living room with fireplace, dining-room, well-equipped eat-in kitchen with gas stove and dishwasher, a study/guest room, and full bath. Clothes washer and dryer in basement. Enclosed sun-porch and a small deck at the front of the house.Upstairs is bright and airy. Two large bedrooms, each with French doors open to a deck that runs the width of the 2nd floor, with ocean and Basin views. Drapes provide privacy and shade. Half-bath with view of the Basin .

The house is set back from the street, with small front and back yards and a cobblestone patio in back, offering tree-shaded play areas for children, a place for grilling and outdoor eating, and a semi-enclosed outdoor shower. Parking for 4 cars. Well-insulated. New windows. Gas heat. Central AC (not often needed, because there's always a breeze). Wireless internet.

Great cottage
Great place and perfect location for a relaxing beach vacation. This was our third year at this cottage and we’ve booked for next year.

Great Location
Beautiful home with a great view of the ocean from the deck. Wonderful location with plenty of parking. We stayed a month here in the winter and they had everything you would need for a long term or short term rental. Easy to work with the owners and plenty of privacy.

Good location
The location is wonderful, having an outdoor shower is nice. Upstairs deck is awesome. We didn’t enjoy the ants or the beds, pillows or sheets. There was also a shortage of drinking glasses (instead there were plastic type glasses). The house didn’t appear overly clean to us.

Plum Island stay
We needed a place for two nights over the Memorial Day weekend as we were attending a wedding. Plum Island beach cottage looked inviting in the ad, and would satisfy our family’s needs. We found the HOME charming, clean, and all the amenities listed were there and in good order. The house was located directly across the street from the ocean and was convenient to local restaurants. I would highly recommend staying at Plum Island Beach cottage. Bill, the property manager, was accessible when needed, and allowed us a late checkout again to meet our needs.

Memorial Day on the beach
The house was clean, comfy and convenient, also well equipped with cooking supplies and beach chairs, etc. and a quick walk to the beach. The gorgeous weather didn't hurt, and the beach wasn't crowded a bit, even on the long weekend.

Plum Island June 2019
Our family had a great time renting this Plum Island house. Close to the beach, river, Mad Martha’s breakfast nook and a short walk from the center. I would highly recommend it for your next vacation

Comfortable place for a lovely vacation
As a family, we've been coming to Plum Island for decades, and we've stayed at fancier houses, but the layout and space is perfect with kids, and I love a screened porch, and the upstairs deck is my favorite place to be with a book. The kitchen was well-stocked and clean, and the dining table fit us all for games in the evening. We look forward to returning!

Perfect Summer Vacation!
Bill’s house was perfect: a minute from the beach, short walk to ice cream and the Sunset Grill, and a quick drive to downtown. (If you even need to go down there—the house was thoughtfully stocked with all the essentials, to include a cribbage board and even batteries for the remote control.)

We had a lovely time at your cottage. It is beautiful home with an upstairs deck that was one my favorite parts of the home. On some days, there was a beautiful breeze, and it was relaxing place to be at the end of the day. First floor was nice as well. It had all the amenities to cook in and a clean grill to cook on.

Family friendly property steps from the beach!
We had a wonderful stay at the end of August 2021. The house was clean, well stocked and very easy to baby-proof for our active toddler! The bedrooms are huge and bright, and the upstairs deck was our favorite spot (my toddler’s was the outdoor shower!). Can’t beat the location either, a short path to the beach is right across the street. Our favorite spot to get food turned out to be the Plum Island Kitchen, which was just steps from the house as well!

The best of Cape Cod without any of that traffic
Fabulous beach home for a family. Easy access to a part of the beach that is never crowded and at low tide opposite the walkable sand bar. Mad Martha's almost next door that has the best menu on the island - you have to do a breakfast here. Although it rained all day Monday the sites and sounds of nearby Newburyport kept both the adults and kiddies entertained. We biked to Bob Lobsters and down the nature reserve to beautiful Sandy Point. Outdoor shower every night before long uninterrupted sleep. Perfect vacation.

Beautiful Island
Eight of us gals spent a long weekend at Bill's home on Northern Boulevard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Kitchen had just about everything we needed, beds were super comfortable, bathroom was beautiful and the shower was great. Living room sofa very comfortable. Only negative thing to say would be the comfortableness of the pullout sofa which is typical of course. (Springs) my sister-in-law just ended up sleeping on the cushions instead. We would definitely stay here again!.

Another great vacartion
We love this house! This was our second year coming here. My third stay. My daughter liked it so much she booked 4th of July week, of this year. Next year is already booked. The house is great, clean and roomy. Bill is available if needed. He sends a text to make sure everything is good. I highly recommend this house. The beach is literally across the street.

Lovely cottage with a short stroll to the beach!
We enjoyed our week at this darling beach cottage. The upstairs bedrooms were just lovely with breezes and the sound of waves coming through the french doors to the upper deck. We could watch the moon or sunrise from bed! Beach was just a short stroll away. Gorgeous sunrises and partial view of sunset over the Basin. First floor was more cute and cozy than the pictures could display but smelt a little funny when it got hot and humid. Only downside: we got the impression the house would be fairly stocked so we didn't bring items we normally do (soap, toilet paper, paper towels, alarm clock, hair dryer). Had to go shopping the first day. Also, upper deck could use a small table. Would love to visit again even off season!

Tale of two houses
Two month stay, off season, solo. Good: Beach across street; ample room for just me; excellent town a bike ride away; enjoyable balcony for work or chilling when weather agreeable; dining area to work or friends over for dinner; grill & laundry; TV for NCAA tourney; owner is communicative, cordial, provides info. A lot to like. Challenging: Picture being offered a stay at your uncle’s cabin. Sounds great: you’ll kick back, relax. But your uncle’s rarely there and things get neglected. My experience: disrepair (e.g.: 2 bedrooms w 4 entry light switches - only 1 works), cleanliness questions (mold, shelf spills), disheveled (broken cabinets, furniture), disorganized (kitchen). Even my arrival found me fumbling for a functional light switch, then fixing the problem. A frustrated first week, even before the leaks... Heavy leaks from front windows during first rough storms of my stay were annoying. But understandable: problem thought addressed via repairs, testing showed it wasn’t. To me, however, the other items above, less understandable; similarly was leaving it to me to offer a leak remedy. But my suggestion was accepted, owner took action, leaks stopped. I expect – and hope – others will continue enjoying their stays. As noted, much to like. The rest was also my experience. My 2nd vrbo stay, but extensive use of main competitor and others. I had looked forward to this 2nd long term stay in the area, but didn’t match my hosted experiences..

Paradise
I was very impressed with how clean the house was upon arrival. It is a wonderful house. The pictures on the site don't do it justice. The rooms are bigger than they look. The backyard is great. My grandchildren , ages 2 and 3, enjoyed playing out back. The trees give plenty of shade. Ohhh and the beds are actually nice and comfortable!!! We all slept well. The only drawback is the trash. Why do vacationers make so much trash, ourselves included? The trash bin and both recycle bins were full when we arrived. Pick up isn't till Wed morning. Recycle wasn't picked up, so we couldn't recycle. I can't blame Bill for that, trash pickup is scheduled, like everywhere else. Bill was quick to help us out when we needed help. He took care of our issue right away. Thank you, Bill! We loved this house so much we booked already for next year!! If you are looking for a home away from home, with the beach right across the street, I highly recommend this house! A couple of suggestions if you do decide to rent the house. 1. bring an anti slip mat for the tub. Our 2 yr old had a scary slip in the tub. We ran out and bought a tub mat. problem solved. 2. They do have a nice Keurig for your use, they even provide you with pods, thank you! If you drink as much coffee as we do, the Keurig isn't practical. I would suggest bringing your own coffee maker.

Quick Family/Friends visit
Stayed here for 3 nights to visit friends and family. Location is easy to get to, beach is just across the street. We were there in the after season so it is much quieter in the area (and some restaurants were closed for the season) but Newburyport is less than 10 minutes away and is always busy. Cottage is a typical rustic New England place, perfect for our needs.

Relaxed week
This was the first time I had headed north for a vacation. The area was everything that I expected. My host was available throughout the week to answer any questions. I loved that the sheets and towels were provided, access to coffee, staples in the fridge, and close to the beach.
