Nice friendly place to stay with an excellent breakfast. Staff are lovely and helpful. Free parking is an advantage. Great area in jesmond, 20 mins walk into town or you can have a 5 minute walk to west jesmond metro station and easily commute into the centre of Newcastle or even continue to Tynemouth or the airport.

2nd stay at The Cairn, but this time we were allocated a room in the Carlton building above the Sky Bar. The receptionist kindly offered to swap us to the main hotel but we thought we'd try the Carlton room for a change. The room was smaller than previous and had a fusty smell on first entering but all the bedding and towels were lovely and clean. The room was well equipped, including USB charging points and a fridge. As warned, the music from the Sky Bar was very loud but only until 11pm, so it didn't cause a problem for us, but guests may prefer to take earplugs if an earlier night is needed. It's in a great location, close to all the bars and restaurants of Jesmond. Nice to have use of free parking on site.

The staff are really helpful. We had a probkem with the heating in our room without any fuss we were hiven another room. Breakfast was lovely and fresh. I opted for the continental breakfast which was good but I did think it was a bit expensive. The same price as the Full English @ £13.95!
