My family and I (2 adults, 3 children under 11) stayed at the NisseHus between Christmas and New Year 2015/2016. We had a fantastic time on our first visit to Norway. The property is very comfortable and spacious, with modern facilities (good kitchen and bathroom and very large lounge / dining area). The wood-burning stove in the main lounge area is very efficient, and heats up very quickly. We arrived in heavy snow and the whole house was warm in less than 1 hour just by using the wood-burning stove, which when it has reached a good heat, can be turned down to burn slowly and still maintain a very good warmth. The sauna was also very nice. The Gautefall ski resort is less than 1 hour away (even on very snowy roads), and this was an excellent way for us to introduce our children to skiing, and we visited the ski resort 3 times. The area around the house is excellent for walking and exploring the surrounding area. There were frozen waterfalls and lakes, and lots of deep snow when we visited, making the scenery very attractive. We visited from the UK, and flew to Stavanger airport. During the winter I would recommend driving via the south coastal roads (E39 and then E18), as they are faster roads and less snowy if coming from Stavanger. The drive took about 5 hours on these roads, which we took on the way back, and more like 6 hours on the way there through the forests and the smaller, snowy roads - however the scenery was breath-taking on this route. Overall I would thoroughly recommend the NisseHus as a place to stay with a young family if you are looking for a self-catering holiday with some beautiful scenery, walking in the snow, and access to a ski resort suitable for beginners. I would recommend getting a 4-wheel drive car if you are planning to visit in the winter, as we found this a very safe way to drive the snowy roads, and it ensured we had good grip when driving up steeper roads. The shop in Felle was very friendly and useful, and only 5 minutes drive away. We also used the Eurospar in Brokelandsheia for a larger shop on our first day, which lasted us for most of the week (about 40 minutes drive away). It is truly a magical spot, and we were very lucky that the snow arrived just before we did, helping to create a real 'Winter Wonderland' experience.
