My husband and I have stayed at The Riu Palace in Aruba 3 times thus far!! We love the convenience of walking to the shops and restaurants available in the area. We also love visiting the butterfly farm within walking distance from hotel. Overall this all inclusive resort is well worth the money- would highly recommend!

We were initially put in a room 453, which had very old stained furniture, I had to request to be moved from this tattered room to a better room. We did get moved to the 10th floor of the other building. We had a great view. Furniture still old and outdated but cleaner. The restaurants on site; first the only one I would recommend is the steak restaurant. Others were awfu! They don’t take reservations so each person of party of people have to arrive stand in line till 6 only to be told sorry we’re now full for this seating come back for 8:00 seating. Are you kidding! So the main dining. Hall was almost always our only choice left. Needless to say we had to eat out 3 nights due to this archaic way of running a restaurant, business or businesses. All the staff at the Rio are kind and pleasant. They are given the rules to follow in are expected to follow them. We heard many disgruntled customers talking about the design of the on-site restaurants, one of them was just so awful. You couldn’t even swallow the food. Location of this place was on the first floor. Awful!! Sadly, money was put into ambiance not chef or food. Weather was beautiful! 🌞

Beautiful location and view from room was a plus. Very hospitable service including Mercedes who treated us like family. Beachfront and walking path was very nice. Steak restaurant was wonderful if you could get in. Lines formed very early but worth the wait. Would come again.

The RIU Palace was a definite disappointment from start to finish! In all fairness, I will say that most of the staff, especially housekeeping and bar staff, tried to make up for the mismanagement and run down condition of the property, but there is only so much they can do. From the very beginning, the room we booked was not what was advertised, was dirty, full of fruit flies, mattress was horrible, and the shower glass was broken. Only one elevator was operating during our entire stay, and one day there was no elevator working at all, and we were on the 8 th floor! The process for getting into any of the restaurants was terribly mismanaged. If you weren’t in line at 5:30 for any of them, which all opened at 6, you were out of luck for dinner, unless you went to the buffet, which was mediocre at best. In our building, we experienced electrical wires hanging down from the ceiling on a couple of occasions and no workable ice machines most of the time. The pool area was beautiful, and the swim up pool bar was lots of fun, with good service, but the absence of top shelf liquors and imported (American) beer was disappointing and not typical of a Palace level RiU. Also, there was a rule that the bar pool, as well as the pool bar itself, was supposed to be adults only, with signs everywhere stating that, in 3 different languages, but it was not enforced. Kids were allowed in that pool, around the bar, and even served sodas and frozen drinks while seated at the bar! 🙄

This property was very clean and well-maintained. The rooms definitely need to refresh and the restaurants have very limited meal choices for an all-inclusive. You could never spend a week there and have enough dinner options. We ended up eating out twice because of that. If you don’t mind eating at a buffet, it was amazing. We just prefer sit down dinners at night.
