Oceanfront beach cottage panoramic views spectacular sunsets sandbars warm water

Welcome to the Northumberland Nook, a coastal retreat for salt, sand and surf seekers that is advantageously perched just above the ocean allowing for uninterrupted panoramic views of the Northumberland Strait. Whether you enjoy lounging on the large deck, relaxing inside or walking the sandy beach, the sights and sounds of the ocean surround you.

Northumberland Nook is a newly renovated 3 bedroom coastal get away located on a secluded sandy beach in Toney River, Nova Scotia. This cozy, comfortable ocean cottage is the ideal escape for those seeking a place to “get away from it all”. Whether you enjoy beach-combing along the sandy shores, walking the endless sand bars, watching the fishing boats haul their traps or swimming in the ‘warmest waters north of the Carolina’s’ we have you covered.

After your time at the beach, rinse off in the outdoor shower. Enjoy some relaxation time on our large ocean-facing deck where you are perfectly positioned to experience some of the most stunning, picturesque sunsets. As the evening approaches, and the sky darkens, you have your choice of enjoying the warmth of a campfire in the fire pit, and/or waiting for the stars to reveal themselves for some exceptional stargazing.

What better way to finish off the perfect day than with gourmet fare whether that be barbecuing on the outdoor grill and eating seaside, enjoying lobster caught close by or enjoying a family-style dinner at the custom-made harvest table.

Northumberland Nook is conveniently located on the sunrise trail and is a short 12-minute trip into the historic Town of Pictou. Pictou is the home of the Ship Hector, Grohmann Knives, numerous pubs/eateries, a grocery store and where you can board the ferry to Prince Edward Island. Hit the trail in the opposite direction and arrive at the artistic village of Tatamagouche. This small village has lots to offer its visitors including a number of small artist studios, a farmers’ market, a brewery, the Balmoral Grist Mill, and Jost Vineyards. In both Pictou and Tatamagouche, you have easy access to the Trans Canada Trail which is a great way to see the area either on foot or cycling. All along the sunrise trail you will find numerous parks and sandy beaches that provide the perfect stop for a picnic and cooling off.

Relaxing location with amazing ocean & sunsets views
A DIY refurbished cottage (ill fitted doors, uneven floors and windows letting bugs enter) set on a cliff by the ocean that provides amazing views. Large master bedroom, very comfortable lounging areas; basics are provided. Lovely balcony/patio but exposed to hot sun all day (no shade). Access to rocky shores shared & tru neighbours’ property.

PERFECT GETAWAY!!!
Where do I start? First of all, this home by the Northumberland Strait has the perfect beach home décor. It's absolutely beautiful. It looks like the "after" on a HGTV program. It sits on a bluff about 25 feet from the water, which is exactly what I wanted. The living room and dining room are wrapped in windows to enjoy the Strait. Although there are other houses (but not too close) it's very private. The host left a wonderful note about things to do in the surrounding area, and I did it all. Pictou is a charming town drenched in history. If you want a first class seaside resort all your own at a great price, this is it!!!

Awesome waterfront cottage
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Nothumberland Nook and have booked again for next year! . The cottage is spacious, modern and well equipped. The AC was much appreciated as we were experiencing a heat wave. There was great Wifi connection. The beachy decor is well done and adds to the vacation feeling. The large deck overlooks the strait and had fabulous views of the sunsets and sunrises. Though we were not able to have an outdoor fire due to a burn ban it was great to know there was a fire pit with wood provided. The beach was easily accessed by the adjacent stairs and it was great for swimming or you can just sit in your beach chair with your toes in the sand. We enjoyed some of the nearby bike trails and visited the towns of Tatamagouche and Pictou for lunch and shopping. The village River John is a short drive and has the essentials. The owners were very quick to respond any questions we had. Can’t wait to go back next year and highly recommend if you want a great relaxing vacation for the whole family.

Unwinding on the Northumberland straits
Beautiful location. Lovely quiet spot to be able to unwind. The cottage is tastefully laid out and with everything one would need for a relaxing stay by the water. Easy access to grocery stores. Wonderful beaches nearby. Although immediate access to beautiful sandy beach is somewhat limited, it is easy to access these kinds of beaches by a 5 to 10 minute walk or two minute drive. Would definitely return.

Experience Coastal Life in Nova Scotia
This is truly a gem of a cottage on the Northumberland Strait. We are so happy we chose this cottage for our 2 week vacation, last 2 weeks of August. The cottage has been recently renovated and is bright, tastefully decorated and spacious due to the open concept floor plan. The elevated location on the huge deck over looking the water made morning coffee extra enjoyable watching the seals, daily, bob in the water between their search for fish and Northern Gannet dive bombing for the meals. Water was very warm for swimming and beach is easily accessible by stairs 50 feet away. Beach is exceptional due to the variation of sand and rock. The rock creates the interesting tidal pools to explore at low tide. I am a big kid, so enjoyed seeing the Hermit and Rock crabs, flounder and even small lobsters. The best swimming is actually out front of the cottage, pure sand. Sunsets as you can see in the pictures of the cottage delivered and transitioned nicely into nights around the camp fire. The hosts even provide the wood. If you want to leave the cottage and explore the area, there’s lots to do a short distance away. Lots of small towns along hwy 6 to explore. Tatamagouche and Pictuo are 2 towns that deliver and worth the visit. Great restaurants, art galleries and other shops to explore. Looking for some other adventures not too far away. The ferry to PEI is only 15 minutes away. We took the ferry and enjoyed a day in Charlottetown. Some great hiking trails near by and in particular Wentworth Ski hills has a great hike and lookout 45 minutes away. Also, Truro is only about an hour away and has great hiking in the middle of the city, amazing. Drive a little further to Halifax for an outing, only 1 hour and 45 min minutes away. We drove an 1:45 minutes away to Clam Harbour beach, east of Halifax and took surfing lessons, had a great day. The Calm Harbour beach has to be one the nicest beaches in Nova Scotia. As mentioned this cottage is a gem, in a laid back location, really peaceful, yet is in a location that offers up lot’s to do. Owners Chad and Marcy are great host, that were very helpful when we were booking the cottage back in May and checked in with us periodically during our stay to see if we needed anything. Thanks again Chad and Marcy, we are hoping to be back again next year.

Beautiful oceanfront property
This peaceful cottage on a warm water beach, in a scenic, quiet area of vacation homes, was our best vacation rental experience ever! The cottage is super clean and spacious with relaxing beachy decor, and a great view of sea and sunset. It has been beautifully refurbished, and modernized into a luxury retreat. Cross breezes through wrap around windows, and the northwestern exposure keep the cottage cool even in the hottest part of the summer. We loved hanging out on the comfortably furnished oceanfront back deck, swimming in the warm water ocean with no currents, and walking the best beach combing beach around for sea glass and ocean jasper, some polished by the sea into smooth jewelry suitable shapes. We usually barbecued our dinner and ate on the back deck listening to the waves at high tide. But one evening we had a great waterfront dining experience at the Marina Bar and Grill in Pictou. They have the best fish and mango tacos we've ever had -- but get there by 6:00 p.m. to get an ocean front table on their wrap around deck. For a change of scenery, we explored the non crowded Waterside Provincial Park, 9 minutes away, which also has warm water. The sand is smoother at low tide, but it isn't great for beach combing. If you need a break from relaxing, the owner has supplied outdoor and indoor games. There is a large flat screened TV, although no dedicated movie channel. The wifi, which we used daily, was very reliable. The owners went out of their way to cater to my allergies to scents, and supply hypo-allergenic bedding if needed. No pets or smoking or mustiness also make this place suitable for people with allergies. We found the owners to be very responsive in general, and dealing with them was a pleasure. We highly recommend this recharge-the-batteries, beautiful retreat -- and we'll be back!

Location perfect. Great sunsets. Cottage is very nice, just needs to be tightened up a bit( back door ), as lots of bugs get in house. Back door doesn't lick. But overall, very goodas lots of spiders & other bugs
