San Juan Overlook

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Take in panoramic views of the San Juan Mountains at this gorgeous log home, stunningly situated on five acres of land just outside Pagosa Springs. Enjoy an expansive back deck overlooking the mountains.

This home is incredibly atmospheric, with exposed log walls, a grand stone fireplace, and taxidermy mounts adorning the walls (including a mountain lion perched atop one of the crossbeams). The well-equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances and plenty of prep space, and there's lots of room at mealtime between the standalone kitchen island and the large dining table.

Outside, you can grill on the patio, dine on the beautiful deck, and watch for passing deer and elk (with most of the property's acreage going downhill off the back of the house). In the evenings, gather around the firepit to roast marshmallows and watch the stars come out over the mountains.

THINGS TO KNOW
For a separate fee, guests can enjoy access to the pool, tennis court, basketball court, and volleyball court of Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center.

Disliked: Amenities
The location was great. The property needed a good trash cleanup. Two of the showers needed to have the doors replaced. They didn’t slide well in their tracks. One couch had a blanket over it because the vinyl was falling off and was a mess everywhere. No A/C. Pots and pans needed to be replaced. Tv remotes needed batteries. Ice maker didn’t work. No garbage disposal

Nice but Old Cabin
The layout and location of the cabin are really nice. The view from the main living space and the back porch is incredible. The cabin itself is old. Cobwebs can be seen at the higher locations. Windows are cracked and apparently wasps can find their way in the house. Be very careful with the master suite as the door can easily lock from the inside and the only way to open from the outside is a key that doesn't appear to be in the house. The customer service was very prompt and friendly.

Log home needs work done
I could go on and on but I hit the top items. It's apparent that this home is old and in need of a lot of work to bring it up to speed. There was no air conditioning and only 2 fans for this large home. Beautiful front porch that was shady in the AM but no chairs. The furniture in the living room was old and needs to be replaced. The "leather sofa" was really bad in that the vinyl had peeled off the sofa so they covered it {seats only) with a blanket. So tacky. There were sticky notes all over the house telling us what we couldn't turn on or what didn't work. Not too classy. Even the back door to the deck had a note that warned you that the glass was broken so make sure not to slam the door. A couple of the large windows had broken glass too. Our bedroom bath had slidiing doors on the tub but the handles were missing so it was hard to get shut to take a shower. The microwave started to smoke when we tried to use it (they had no note telling us that it didn't work}. It was written up as having a pool but we couldn't find it. Although the black lagoon out back had a smell of the sewer. The fire pit was horrible. The stumps that were suppose to be seats had rotted out and no wood was available. All in all, we won't be returning.

Great view, inaccurate listing, and poor local management
Beautiful view from deck, even better than expected, and the location is great for many activities. Interior features were old, as expected. Hot tub is listed as an amenity and the local management office stated that all amenities listed will be available. They provide rapid politely worded text messages but don't actually respond to any issues. There was no hot tub available and the microwave didn't work, which was inconvenient with very young children.

Old Log Home
I would not stay here again and would not recommend this house to any one. They do not clean the dirt driveway and there is a very large deep mud hole in the driveway near the paved road, better have a 4X4. The walkway to the house is not safe, not snow removal and you only have a very narrow, steep, slick path to get to the porch. The roof leaks in the bunk room and they have know about it for several week and have been told they needed a new roof and decking under the metal roof. There is an electric plug in the living room floor that does not have a cover and someone could get shocked. Some of the light fixture didn't work, not sure if it was from burned out bulbs or not but most lights had burnt out light bulbs. The furniture is in bad shape with one couch peeling, one recliner broken( won't open or close) and the furniture on the back deck is mostly ripped out. The hot tub worked but the wood on the side was falling off. The cooking pots had several broken handles. The hot water didn't last long because the tank is only 37 gallons, for a house that sleeps 10 it should be bigger. The fireplace has notes on it that say don't use out of order. The back door has broken glass and have been taped up with scotch tape and tell you to be careful and it is dated 10/8(No year). The one good thing in the view out of the cracked back living room windows of the beautiful mountains. Every day when the sun warmed the house we had to kill flies and wasp and came alive. Stay Away!

Fun trip
House was nice It was just older and so was the furniture. Fireplace did not work. Chairs broken Glass on back door cracked. The plumbing was not good. Two bathrooms toilets stopped up and backed up into showers. Shower’s didn’t drain well. However contractor did come out and did something which helped the problem. I was able to communicate via text with someone regarding issues which was very easy and helpful. Over all good experience and we enjoyed it.
