Marvel at a palace designed by famed Venetian architect Andrea Palladio and take a guided tour through the expansive mansion to discover an impressive art collection.

Palazzo Thiene is one of Vicenza’s many architectural gems. Appreciate the work of a revered Venetian architect and join a guided tour to learn about the palace’s rich art collection. Palazzo Thiene dates back to the 15th century and was once the residence of the noble Thiene family. Today, it operates as a banking institution, art museum and cultural center.

The vast palace spreads across almost an entire city block. Check out the intricately carved main entrance, located on Contrà Porti street. Look up to see a set of beautiful frescoes and stucco embellishments. Walk around the outside of the palace and note the presence of Corinthian pillars and tabernacle-style windows. The well-known architect Andrea Palladio designed the palace with help from plans created by Giulio Romano.

Make an appointment to explore the palace's stately interior. Guided tours offer a glimpse at the courtyard and an incredible art collection. Step inside the peaceful courtyard, surrounded by a two-level arcaded gallery.

Inside, see Venetian paintings from the 15th to the 19th century, including work by Bartolomeo Montagna and Jacopo Bassano. Check out the vast display of engravings bequeathed by Giovanni Antonio Remondini, a member of a prestigious publishing family. There are also collections of ancient Venetian ceramics, coins and figurines.

Find the Palazzo Thiene situated close to Corso Andrea Palladio, an architecturally impressive pedestrianized street in Vicenza’s city center. Major city attractions such as the Gallerie di Palazzo Leoni Montanari, Teatro Olimpico and Piazza dei Signori can be found nearby. Parking is limited on the city center streets. Vicenza’s train station is less than a 15-minute walk away from Palazzo Thiene.

The palace and its art collection are closed in July and August. Guided tours take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, except for public holidays. Visit the palace’s official website for information about how to schedule a tour. The website also provides details about special events such as free tours.
